I bought a JDM BJ70 last year from a guy in Denver who had owned it for a few years. He had done the diesel exhaust inspection when I bought it so I didn’t have to worry about that. However, when I tried to renew my registration this year, the sate seems to have an issue with the fact that I put a turbo on the truck. I’ve been told by the state that I need a new EPA form bc it’s an import and it’s not supposed to be “modified from original”. On top of that, the diesel shops around that do the exhaust inspections are saying that 90%+ of the aftermarket turbo’d diesels fail the opacity tests. Has anyone else run into this issue?

I live in the Springs

Are you in Colorado Springs? I know that last year the laws have changed. Exhaust shops in the springs can’t put aftermarket exhausts or aftermarket cats on cars. Have to have oem. We will soon follow suite like Denver, having to deal with smog.

Yeah Im in Colorado Springs. There was no cat on the truck originally. They didn’t start putting them on diesel trucks until the 2000’s I think.
