I need some advice on a Westinghouse over and under(?) refrige and freezer. This is an older unit (22yrs) but it still cools and freezes as new. In the bottom of the unit under the crisper bins it is starting to collect water. It will collect about a cup and a half of water every day. I have been wipeing it dry every morning for about a week now . Doesnt seem to be getting any worse, but I guess I need to address the problem. I would think it is an evaporator malfunction? I feel I can replace any parts myself that are bad,( I'm out of work and cant afford to call a repairman), just need some expert advice on the problem. If there are any fridge repairmen out there, can you help me out?
Thanks.....DAVE

Most of them have a drain in the bottom, check and see if the hose is plugged.

Nope. No drain....Thanks................

The only water in the fridge is what's in the air, unless you have a water and ice dispenser. It's totally normal for an evaporator core (the cold side of a refridgerator cooling system) to condense the water from the air. I assume it's fairly humid wherever Big Orange Country is right now, so that's probably where the water is coming from. As Splitshot said, there has to be a drain where the evaporator core is to get rid of that moisture. However, the evap core is usually in the freezer side. Now, if you're getting moisture in the box, away from the evap core, you may have a leak in the magnetic seal on the door, or somewhere else, or you may be leaving the door open a lot and letting a lot of moisture in, which will condense on the box sides and collect in the bottom.

Big Orange Country is East Tennessee, Thought every one should know that by know with all the National championships banners hanging at the university:smokin:
Now back to the fridge: Ice maker at top in the freezer works fine. Humidity normal, not very high. The water in the lower tray has been acumulating very moderatly for about 4-6 months but just recently has become more of a problem. I checked the seal after reading your post and all around the door it seems tight and is clean.
Thanks for the information Spike
