What does it mean in our public profiles "referals 0" or as I see on some "1"?

I just noticed it and wonder Hmmmm........... If anyone knows I will buy them a beer the next time we are at the pub together.....LOL

My guess is it has to do with sending someone woody's way for advertising, or to do business with the site. If you check woody's profile he has eleven or so I think......

referrals should be skipped....some sites use them, I don't sweat it

When I was in high school, I got a lot of refferals to the dean's office. Are these similar?

Is there a way to see who I referred?
