I thought I would just start a new thread and start posting these as I get them. I don't know why I like this place so much. It made a mess of my truck.

Welcome to the latest edition of the newsletter. This newsletter is published by the Redbird Foundation and its members.

I want to start off by thanking everyone that attended the Christmas in July night ride. The Foundation was able to donate $500.00 to the local Shop with a Cop program. We hope this helps to put a smile on the face of the youth in our area around Christmas time. Thanks also go out the the DNR park staff for all their help with these events.

Talking about events, we have the First Annual Hi-Lift Jack customer appreciation day on August 21st.The fine folks at Hi-Lift will pay the gate fee and give a tee shirt to the first 75 pre-registered vehicles through the gate. They will have product displays, and prize giveaways, and guided trail rides around the property. Please try to attend and show your support for Hi-Lift and all they do for the off road community.

The Foundation is also working with another company about holding their customer appreciation day at the park too. Be sure to read the newsletters and check the web site for more details.

The DNR park staff has been working hard this summer keeping the park looking nice. They have been mowing and cleaning and clearing trails. They are also planning on erecting a new shelter house and restroom yet this year. I also think there will be a few new trails added too.

The DNR has also been working on the OHV registration process for the gate house. By the time you read thisw, you should be able to register you OHV at Redbird. I would like to suggest that all OHV vehicles that carry license plates, also think about purchasing the OHV sticker. The fees collected help fund projects like Redbird and Inter-Lake. It also helps with the numbers and the money when it comes time for grants and matching funds. The cost is only $30.00 for three years.

The Foundation still has events planned for the rest of the year. the Labor Day, Fall and Thankgiving night rides are approaching fast. Please try to attend one of these events and help show your support for the park and the Foundation. The Indiana Four Wheel Drive Association (IFWDA) will hold their 30 year anniversary event at the park in October. Be sure to check out their web site Indiana 4WD Association - Home Page for more information. Also think about joining their very worthwhile organization.

Thanks again for helping to make Redbird one of the best places to ride. Till next time, hope to see you on the trails!!!!!

Welcome to the latest edition of the Redbird State Riding Area newsletter. This newsletter is written and published by the Redbird Foundation
I would like to start off thanking Hi-Lift Jack and all their employee's for holding their First Annual Trail Day at the park. The event was a huge success, it broke the all time attendance record for through the gate riders and passengers. Hi-Lift paid for everyone's gate fee and also provided food and prizes along with organized trail rides and a road rally. The weather started off a little on the damp side, but by noon the sun was out and the day turned out wonderful. Everyone I spoke with said they had a great time and couldn't wait for next year. Again thanks to Hi-Lift and all they do to support the off road community.
The DNR was also very pleased with the turnout and I would like to thank them for their support and help with the event. They had the park looking great and the trails in good shape along with helping to keep all the trash generated by the event hauled off. The DNR has made huge improvements in the park since taking over the day to day operations, and it shows everywhere you look.
Keeping with the DNR, they have some changes in store for the park. First, Redbird State Riding Area will be known as Redbird State Recreation Area as of January 1st. This will allow Redbird to fall more in line with Inter-Lake and become a multi-use property. What types of uses other than motorized that will be added are still being discussed at this time. also there will be a new fee structure at the park, the amount of those fees and how and what they will be charged for are also being worked out.But remember if users see a slight increase, Redbird's fees will still be the lowest of any off road park around. One note about any fee increase, any money collected will go back to Redbird and not to a general fund that can be used at other properties. Also the new shelter house and restrooms are still in the works for this year. The park staff have been busy supervising the use of heavy equipment on and around the trails. The cost of the heavy equipment is being paid for by the Redbird Foundation with funds collected from the night rides and shirt and sticker sales. These are some of the projects that the Foundation in cooperation with the DNR do to help Redbird grow and prosper. About the Foundation, we have our Lador Day weekend night ride and camp out on September 4th through the 6th. Come out and ride the trails and camp under the stars, and even try the trials at night. It will give you a whole different view of the park. We also have two more night rides left this year. A fall one in October and our last one of the year over Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to check out the website event calendar for more information. Also the Indiana Four Wheel Drive Association will hold their 30 year anniversary trail ride at Redbird on October 23rd. I am sure they have a great time planned for the event. The Redbird Foundation continues to work with the DNR and other groups to help make your experience at Redbird a memorable one. We are working with with another company now that wants to hold an event similar to Hi-Lift's at the park. More information as it becomes avaiable. Until next time be sure to support those that support us. And as always, I hope to see you on the trails

November 2010

Welcome to the fall edition of the Redbird State Riding Area newsletter. This newsletter is written and published by the Redbird Foundation, a non for profit organization dedicated to help Redbird grow and prosper.
It looks like the dry spell may have ended, it has finally rained a little bit. The trails have been as dry as I have ever seen them. That along with the heavy equipment work the Foundation paid for has the trails in some of the best shape that they have ever been. Thanks to the DNR for supervising the the use of the equipment, and all the work they have done on the trails this year.
Staying with the DNR, I am pleased to announce the Rob Hogg has been named the Property Manager for both Redbird and Shakamac State Parks. Rob has been very good to work with and he is always willing to listen to any idea that will help the park grow. He has also helped organize events and make sure we get the necessary permits and permission to hold them. He has also donated his time to youth programs the Foundation has sponsored at the property. We look forward to working with him. Please congratulate Rob the next time you see him. Also note the park hours have changed for the fall and winter months. The new hours are 9am to 5pm.
The Foundation has been busy organizing and helping with events, such as the recent Stair Steps to Success program that was held at the park. Redbird Foundation members donated their time and vehicles to take at risk youth on trail rides. All we heard from the kids was "this is awesome and this is great" and I believe even the adult mentors had a good time too. The DNR also helped by providing a speaker and the use of the building and their side by side atv's. We just had the fall night ride and look forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving night ride and camp out. It will be a three day event and start on the Friday after Thanksgiving and end on Sunday.
The Foundation is also taking part in an advertising campaign that the DNR is putting together to promote off road use in Indiana. We are going to supply off road vehicles for a photo shoot that the DNR will use to make posters and fliers to hand out and place in motorcycle and atv dealers.
One other big step forward is that you can now register your off road vehicle at redbird. Just show up with all the necessary paper work and they can get it done and you can be legal to ride that day. They will issue a temporary permit, and your sticker will be mailed in a few days. This is just one thing more the DNR is doing to make it easier to get out and enjoy the outdoors. If you have any questions about what paper work you need, you can contact then DNR and they will be glad to help you.
The Indiana Four Wheel Drive Association (IFWDA) held their 30th birthday trail ride at Redbird, thanks to all that attended and all the association does for the off road community. Without organizations like IFWDA and the United Four Wheel Drive Association we would be seeing some of the trail closings that are happening in other states happen here. Please think about joining one of these groups and help keep public lands public. Thanks and hope to see you on the trails!!!
