Hijack:

Big,
Do you have any specifics on this? I've only gotten as far as filling a squirt bottle w/ waste oil, then hosing down the logs before the morning lightoff.

I'm wondering if it is practical to set up a drip nozzle inside the stove, allowing oil to drip, drip, drip down into the center of the firebox, hopefully on some burning logs.

It's really pretty simple. I have an 5 gal plastic bucket elevated near the woodstove. The stove had a small pipe nipple welded into the top/center at an angle. I simply bought the fittings to downsize it to a flexible copper tube and upsize it at the bucket complete with a screw valve to control the oil flow. I'll see if my pictures show my set up.

The guy that built my woodstove had a 20 gal metal drum setup the same way. Hope this helps. If you want more detailed pictures, just PM me your email addy and I'll take some closeups.

To officially answer your question, yes it it practical and yes it works like a champ. Just a little drip drip will increase the BTUs coming off the stove a bunch. I usually open my valve 1 full turn when starting to get the oil going, then decrease to 1/4 turn to 1/2 turn depending.

Thanks, Excellent info. I am gonna blatantly copy your setup.

If you have any better pics of the plumbing into the stove, please send em to my screenname at gmail dot com.

Sure thing. I'll provide some tips, too.

Great hijack, I have been thinking about something like this, but I need a wood stove first, any problems with clogging? I had though about putting in an inline filter but apparently it is not needed

I would imagine there could be some clogging issues if there's pine needles and crap like that in the oil. I use pretty clean dirty oil. The only time it's been clogged has been after using it for a whole year, and it was just plugged at the drip location inside the stove. Before I lit the next fire, I took off the junk on the outside and shoved a screwdriver down it. Now I 'clean' it about once a month from the inside. job

edit: I'll post up the closeup pics. Seems like there's more than one person interested.
