Hello,

I'm looking to finally use my FZJ80 in the dirt, butg have been informed I will need the following: 48" jack, Tool kit, Fire extinguisher, Tow Straps, Tire Deflaters (for convenience), and an air compressor/or Co2 tank...

Does anybody have any tips for getting this stuff used or inexpensively, without cutting out quality.

Does anybody know of any brands/models that are of particularly good value.

Are you doing a run with a club that requires it?

For hi-lift just get new. You don't want someone else's problem. For tool kit you need to be way more specific. But Sears Craftsman are cheap and good. Fire Ext. just get at Home Depot for $20. For tow straps...are you sure you need actual tow straps and not yank straps? For tire deflators, if you want cheap then you can find some really cheap deflators at PepBoys for a few bucks. BUT the reason for getting the better (read:$$) deflators is because they have a set PSI where they shut off, very handy. For air, I would recommend going CO2 just for speed. Electric will take forever. You can go to air gas and get everything you need, cept the mount, for under $200. Mount for another $50.

I'd check w/a pawn shop for tools & the hi-lift. If you are skilled enough to wrench on your rig you can refurb a hi-lift in no time.

Everything else: new. Extinguisher & straps at HD, but either don't get the tow straps w/hooks, or take hooks off before using.

Go for the 60" jack for the 80 series... A 48 may be too short.....expecially after you lift it, add bigger tires etc...

Agreed. The first time I had to jack my 60 in a rock garden, I was 3/4 the way up my 60" high lift. A smaller one would have been significantly harder to use.
