Had all new engine seals, plugs, wires, head gasket/head reground, complete valve job, etc. done on wifes '96' cruiser couple years ago...
(1 year ago), driving down freeway, engine started losing power when going up hill, making rattling noise... then died...battery near dead when I tried to restart...had towed back home.
Reminded my wife of similar situation when timing chain broke in one of our cars while she was driving, just not near as loud.
Later, when I tried starting engine after recharging battery, it started very rough, making rattling noise...I quickly turned off.
I'm assuming this could be a number of different problems, timing chain, oil pump, injectors, etc.?
A couple weeks ago when I drove it, I pushed down on the gas a little extra, the engine made a faint rattle noise...
The dealer is not an option, they charge full book on all parts and labor.
Suggestions for a trustworthy mechanic that charges reasonable rates would very much be appreciated..
