I got this thing from Orange Boxx
it is called it a rear P.S.D. I can hang Molle bags from it. What do you think ?

Looks pretty cool.

But the mounting points look a bit to weak to trust it from breaking loose with any weight on it.

Haven't seen that before. Do they do custom graphics or are you a rep for the company. Looks pretty clean.

I wouldn't be concerned for the weight. Many use those points to mount Powertanks (mine was supported on the shelf also) and fire estinguishers.

Interesting option compared to the stuff made by Springtal Solutions...

There are actually a number of threads over at the blue room for people who have DIYed similar racks for both the cargo bay and the rear door.

The side rack DIYs are very easy to do and super cheap as all you need is a 2 inch bar and some spacers.

This model appears to have no benefits over the DIY mods. The mounts appear to be simple spacers allowing for only 2 mounting points. The base of the rack does not appear to be secured at all....instead there seem to be rubber pads placed to keep the rack from bending inward but not the opposite direction.

Mounting a tank to this with only those two points may provide some interesting torsional stresses in rough terrain...would it break free?? That is a pretty good question.

I can tell you that our side rack has done well over the years....but it is wayyy over engineered for the task.

The personalized approach is a nice touch though:)

I can vouch for Doc and Springtail. Mine has held up well through rough terrain with a 20lb. tank and a full first aid bag attached to it.

Trust me when I say this. It is stronger than it looks. Mounts to the wall with 6MM bolts.

I am not a rep. I am a co-owner of orange boxx.

We do custom logo's for this and the rear door. And we are cheaper than the other guys. I am the cad designer for these parts. check out our site.

I am all for free enterprise. Lets show a comparison between the products...Our product and yours.

First the mounts

Brand "O" mount:

A simple spacer that utilizes the plastic bag hanger as a support system. An interesting approach to structural integrity.

OrangeBoxxSRMount-1.jpg

Springtail/MPAC Side rack mount

A complex billet mount that bolts directly to the metal body mounts. The rack bolts directly to the billet mount allowing the rack to be removed without disturbing the hard mount.

MPAC_mounts_002.jpg

Any possibility of rotation of the mount is controlled by billet extensions that protrude into the factory body mount.

Securing the base of the rack

Brand "O" method: What appears to be a rubber bumper pad with no actual control of rack movement

OrangeboxxSRbaserubberplug.jpg

Springtail/MPACs method

If the beefy Billet mounts were not enough, we instruct users to bolt the base of the rack through the shelf of the cargo area. This stops any potential movement of the rack by inhibiting any possibility of a fulcrum effect.

The Rack itself

Brand "O" Rack: Flat plate with some holes

OrangeBoxxSRComponents.jpg

Springtail/MPAC Rack

Folded for additional strength and the ability to use the whole grid not just the parts that do not have a mount nearby.

The grid is designed not only to accept almost all MOLLE products but also to lock the straps in place.
We even thought of providing hand access so that the user can remove standard MOLLE bags with out pulling the rack. It is quite unique (which is why we took the time to patent it).

Finish

Brand "O" Finish: bare metal or so it appears

Springtail/MPAC

Again the effort has been made to produce a quality product that will look good for years to come. Our racks are powdercoated in a state of the art facility. Each rack is produced locally and undergoes a very intense inspection process before they are ever released to you.

Testing

Brand "O" testing...not sure, you will have to tell us

Springtail/MPAC

Over the past 5 years our products have been used and tested by...

The military in Iraq and Afghanistan

MPAC_Rack_Gunner2.jpg

Fire departments

and Law Enforcement

Under all circumstances, the MPAC system comes back with stunning reviews...not only with the product but also with customer service and quality.

What Brand "O" offers you

I must agree the OP that they do offer a "cheaper" product.

For an extra charge, they will personalize the rack...of course, the real price is that it will either potentially limit your ability to get to the back of the rack or it will occupy the grid space needed to hang your MOLLE bags.

What Springtail offers you.

Springtail can offer you a proven quality product that is designed by engineers in a state of the art facility, tested by professionals of many walks of life, and will last likely out last your vehicle.

MPAC and MOLLE is all we do, not only do we make the racks but also vehicle specific MOLLE bags and offer several styles of quickfists and mounts.

We even offer discounted packages to make the velue even better.

What appears inexpensive at first probably won't be in the long run especially when it comes to potential safety issues. For less than the cost of an ER copay, you can get the real thing.

Basically...you get what you pay for ;)

Nice Post Doc . You do have a really nice product. I really love the way you have yours designed in your " state of the art facility, tested by professionals of many walks of life, and will last likely out last your vehicle". I am really happy for you on that part. I really like your system.

At Orange Boxx we design for the customer. We try not to destroy the inside of their vehicle to mount our parts. we try not to have them to drill into their vehicle side to hold anything at all. We try to let them add custom flair to their vehicle.

I never would have openly attacked your system in any forums. Once again Doc thanks for your attack opps comparison.

Well it would seem that your memory is pretty short.

Oct 3rd 2011 on the NCFJ forum you stated...

"The system that is out there now I think has too much wasted space on it. Too heavy for the rear door."

No....you tend to take more of a back door approach.

You can't even come up with a good cover for whom you "borrowed" this idea from

On the NCFJ forum...you even described yours as an "MPAC" system

"Rear MPAC Sys will be here Mid Nov. Stay Tunned"

In the same thread, you reference your next project by the name of another of our product line.

"The next project is really to get the back door system done then this one here. Straddle pack."

I was straight forward about the comparison of the two rack systems....nothing was said that was untrue (unkind maybe, trust me...I was holding back).

It would seem that MUD was the next logical step for you since the Blue room asked you to stop trying to sell your sliders there without becoming a vendor. (Which BTW also seem to have a familiar appearance).

You may want to spend some time working on original ideas. And if you are going to continue to try and sell a :censor: version of my concepts...at least you could become a vendor and support the forum.

Doc, I am glad this popped up.
I have been meaning to order a side rack from you so I can get the Powertank and fire extinguisher off of my cargobox top to make room for the chuckbox and other camping gear back aft.

No problem, actually your timing may be just about perfect. If you plan on mounting a Powertank brand CO2 mount...Soon I will have a new prototype for you to play with you to play with and give me your opinion.

I just wanted to drop in and give my 2cents. It seems like almost daily a new company out of china pops up and steals a great idea, cheapens up the design and tries to infringe on someone elses great idea.

When the M-pac mounts first came out I was not a huge fan, it just seemed like adding more weight to the FJ that wasn't needed. After seeing a customers rig with the M-pac racks I thought they were kinda cool so I ordered the rear set. I have to admit I was a little skeptical of them holding the weight. Esp the air tank I have mounted in the rear of my FJ which gets air born on a regular basis.

What the M-pac racks did for me is cleaned up my FJ. I was using two FJ trail teams bags and every compartments on the FJ to store all my random stuff. With the M-pac racks it not only cleaned up my interior of the FJ but I no longer have dangerous tools and air tanks flying around the cab when I'm running wide open through the desert or rock crawling in the mountains.

Just based off the pictures above the cheap knock offs look to have serious design flaws, I'm curious if they will hold up as good as my M-Pacs have over the years.

Thank you M-pac for making a great product!

Does this mean future customers should wait for the final product to come out of prototype. I especially dislike buying a product knowing ver 2.0 is just around the corner. I did that with Ricochet and dont want to buy in again just before a redesign....
