Shoot just realized what you were asking.. i dont have a carrier on mine yet.

As someone who just got into an accident recently, its good you are alright.

Wanna sell your swing out now, since your insurance agent will trash it? lol Ill straighten it up if its bent :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

That's what I'm going to try to figure out. I'm not letting them go easily. I could always just get the DS tire carrier and call it a day, but I prefer the PS swing away.

Thanks, but getting stiff just sitting and just popped a couple of ibuprofen. We'll see what the weekend brings.

Brent, so sorry to hear that brother. Expect to feel worse in the morning. It is always worse the next day, you would be surprised the muscles you use just going through the impact in a belted and/or airbag situation. This being the "ideal" accident situation. Pretty much like a ridiculous hard work out on muscles that you would never actually work out. If you need anything you can call anytime. Best of luck.

Brent sorry to hear what happened bro....take a few advil and keep positive. all the best.

hope it's nothing more than a day or two of stiffness.

glad you're okay over all.

the bumper and stuff can be fixed a whole lot easier than your body can.

Glad you are ok..

if they replace your kamar.. I'll be second in line to buy the bent and broken peices...

Remember- steel is replaceable---you arn't....

Hope you're ok, if you need a lawyer you know where to find one. glad to hear it was just the bumper.

LOL! I hope it doesn't come to that over the price of the tire carrier $460. They'll repair the rear hatch no questions asked, but I was forewarned by the autobody place that they may give me a problems with the aftermarket bumper. I'd like to get the tire replaced also as it took most of the impact and I'd be concerned about it's saftey even as the spare that it is.

Back is a little better. Played golf with some stiffness.

At this time, I'm only really wanting the tire carrier replaced. It's been rendered unusable with the latch mechanism bent out of place. It's 3/8" steel and would need to be heated and bent back into position and then probably repowder coated. I imagine that process would be more costly than buying a new one from MAF. We'll see.

Brent unless you see visible damage to the sidewall, I wouldn't worry about it. If it were under your rig and aired down, say the west end of Holcomb, it would suffer more. ;)

Don't even bother with trying to fix the tire carrier. It will be a ton of work, even more hassle, and too much of your time. You are being much too nice. Insist on an new carrier. And check the position of the spindle coming out of the bumper, could be out of whack. Even a 16th of an inch at the spindle could translate into 1/2" at the latch end of the carrier.

You should also lay under the back of your rig and stare at it for awhile. Keep an eye out for anything out of whack. Sounds funny, but I have found stuff that I didn't notice out on the trail by lying and looking. Very possible with getting whacked by a Land Cruiser Prado (Fight the Man!) could jostle things around a little. 80's are tough as hell but, you never know.

Sorry to hear about your rotten luck, Brent. I hope your new SoCal 80's stickers weren't scratched.;p Let us know if this affects your golf game, you may need Stan's services yet.

See the pics I posted in the 80's section. Latch is way out of whack and the only way to open the tire carrier is to back off the four latch hook bolts on the bumper. Spindle seems fine. I stared at it quite awhile Saturday afternoon. I agree Mo, no way to fix it. The bends in the latch portion below the tire are at least 3/8" steel and they'd need to be heated up to bend them back into position, and that's not trouble I'm willing to go thru. Probably more expensive than a new one anyway. We'll see if Mecury gives me any shiat. They would if it were my fault as a 'normal' insurance policy does not cover aftermarket stuff like our front/rear bumpers without a specific rider covering them. Given that I'm the victim, they should return my truck to the way it was. If they don't, I'll insist on a brand new OEM bumper. That'll cost more than the damn tire carrier and they can just write me a check.

Best news is that the 8" SoCal sticker is NOT DAMAGED!

I've got the tire up on the roof rack for now. I haven't removed the tire carrier itself yet. I want to see if the ins. adjuster wants pics before I remove it. It has to come off by this weekend for a scout trip. I need access to the rear of the truck.

Undecided about the tire. It took a good whack and the rim got scratched. Not concerned about a scratch on the rim. Just more character. I am going to insist that the tire either be replaced or that the ins. co. put in writing that the use of the tire is ok and they are liable if it blows once I rotate it back into service. It may be just fine, but this is my life riding on that tire.
