What is the maximum allowed speeds with the center and rear diffs locked on a 98' 100 series in the snow.

The manual says 5 mph.

Others say it doesn't matter, once it's locked get after it.

I suppose it's limited only by the low range max speed, but the possibilty of driveline damage exists if you try turning on a high traction surface.

Maybe you could try it out and let us know?

can't one lock the CDL in high on a 100?

Yes. I meant with the center and rear locked, which on a 98 or 99 can only be done in Low range (where the center differential automatically locks unless modified).

The center differential lock is selectable in high range (full time mode).

Sorry for any confusion.

In the snow? As fast as it will go.

With Tacoma's that are equipped with the e-locker, they do a simple mod to allow for the locker to be used in 4 hi. I've seen people run the e-locker at very high speeds and have never witnessed a failure.

Granted, there is always a risk of failure, but on a loose surface, I would guess it is minimal.

The other thing on 98-99 models- when the rear diff is locked, ABS is disabled (In 4-lo of course). That could be an issue on snow as well. I don't know if that can be disabled or not?

Locking the rear diff in the snow will cause an interesting driving experience to say the least, at least on a road it would. I would never advocate using the rear locker at speed on a road...
