I hate my Piggy smelling like gas - thus my project yesterday. It’s official. Just began to tear down my driving cruiser to put on the no driving cruiser. Dropped the gas tank. Not gonna put it back.
So while I wait to get my cruiser corps order I gonna try to get this tank in. Gotta close up two supply holes and possibly close up the ones that go to that plastic thing in my driver rear quarter.
I always deal w people saying that my rig smells of gas! I hate that!
Other tanks seem to just have a fill spout and that’s it. I know I have to have a vent for when I fill the tank, but there is also a little vent on my pump housing. I seem to remember people saying that I should leave that plastic thing with all those hoses.

Try to avoid 'sploding tanks!Want to do the welding myself. Been researching, but any thoughts exploding tanks?
Fill it with water first to evacuate the fumes.
I like this idea!!! Doesn't dry ice give off CO2 as it "melts"?Dry Ice works better! I used to remove Old underground fuel tanks from gas stations and you weren't allowed to transport them unless the fumes were evacuated with Dry Ice then you could cut the tank in half![]()

I have always hear a nitrogen purge is the ticket. You can also use argon or car exhaust.
This sounds like solid guidance!Yeah, be sure to get all the gas out first. A rinse out would be a good idea, or let it sit open for several days so everything can completely evaporate out. Stick your line into the tank coming from your oxygen displacing gas of choice and then yes, let it run in there for several minutes before making sparks and then leave it on the entire time you do the work and while it cools.
Glad you did not blow yourself up!Okay! I didn’t blow up!
Gave it a couple days with a bunch of hours with a shop vac blowing into it.
Boy, I’ll tell you I was really tempted to put a match up to it! The first night! Something’s wrong with me.
I waited and got lazy.
No dry ice.
No exhaust piping.
Put a paper on a broom stick and……..
Nothing.
Game on!
Filled two old send and return holes.
Made a new ‘hat’ for the pump and gauge. Welded it in.
Made a little strap thing to hold tank down to the carriage.
Welded brackets for the carriage to the frame. Old tank used to hang on the bed sheet metal. :/
Now painting tank. ‘Blue by you’
Pics to come.
See my comments above...I think that I will just cap the 4 tubes that go to the vapor thing. See if I can go without. Trying to limit the whole stinky cab thing.

Sublimation. Direct transition from solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase.Try to avoid 'sploding tanks!

Thank you! I was struggling with words. I knew it did not go liquid...Sublimation. Direct transition from solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase.
