I have searched and read a couple threads, but wife is out of town, I have the kids with two Easter Egg hunts this afternoon, so not much more time to search.

My main battery was going bad, it had been cycled too many times. I picked up a yellow top yesterday afternoon, put it in this morning and it won't start with the new batter.

Battery is fully charged.

With key on I get power to everything, open door beep is strong, etc. When I turn the key I get one main click then buzzing from something where all the relays in the footwell are.

Is there an ignition or similar relay down there that might have blown with the fresh fully charged battery?

Is your starter functional? Are the contacts fused together?

Well it was functional as ate as my trip to the auto store yesterday afternoon, I rebuilt the contact about 18 months ago.

I'll give it a tap to see if anything changes. I guess it woudn't take that long to pull it if I need to.

have you tried jumping it? it sounds like your new battery is half drained.

if that is the problemit could be a slow drain. disconnect your + battery lead and take a voltage reading then hook it up and see if you have a small draw.

You say your old battery "was going bad", but was it still cranking the motor? If the first actual no-starty coincided with the new battery install, seems like about 99% chance the fault is either the new battery or poor connections at the terminals. Definitely don't go hunting around elsewhere unless you positively rule those out first.

Good luck,

Curtis

Congrats to CJF for making me back up to the beginin, "or poor connections at the terminals".

I am normally a 3 or 4  mechanic. But hast does make waste. With my harried schedule of activities this weekend and not wanting to drive anymore with the bad battery, I simply stuck the yellow top in and connected everything.

When I had a minute to think, CJF's comment made sense. The new battery was fully charged, and it was clicking well when key was turned over. I looked at the postive connector from the truck and it was lined with a nice black layer of gook. A few minutes later with emery cloth on both terminals and connectors and she turns over like brand new.

NOtheign reallly novel here, just a reminder that even when in a hurry you have to do the basics. This deffinately qualified as a double  .

Thanks for all your quick replies as I was stressing out.
