Got a P0420 and P0430 from my code reader. I reset the ECU and this turned off the CEL.
4 days back we had installed a set of Pulstar Plugs. We did this because of the obvious price at the pumps. After installing them we noticed the car was slightly sluggish, which then I scanned it with OBD2 scanner and found the two codes above.
The Pulstars had caused the CEL to come on in my other vehicle with the same P0420 code and cylinder 2 misfire code. Turns out one of the plugs was bad and Pulstar was happy to replace them free of charge. After resetting the ECU on my other vehicle, no codes ever came back, so everything was fine.
Having that experience I immediately knew this is what caused the CEL on the Highlander. I took out the Pulstars and went back to the factory plugs. Now I wanted to make sure it was really those plugs that caused it. I disconnected the neg. battery terminal to reset the ECU and performed a test outlined in the FSM. This where I rev the car up to 2500-3000 RPMs for 3 minutes. I did this test 2 times, but now the scangauge keeps saying "NOT READY" on the display screen and "NO CODES FOUND". If it was fine it would say "READY" on the screen.
Are there any other tests I can do to speed this process up? Besides keep driving it.
To top it all off this car needs to be smogged before the end of June.
Any help would be great.
