Here and now
The radio in my 06 4R stopped receiving. I pulled apart the dash last night and the connections and wires look fine-so I'm guess it's either the antenna or the tuner in the stereo. The CD player works and I get a hiss in the speakers in tuner mode. The stereo is a Sony CDX GT310 that came with the 4R-the factory head was not included.

To inspect the antenna connection will I need to pull the interior wall panels? -is so which side? I am searching to see if I have an old radio somewhere that I can attach to the antenna to trouble shoot.

Any suggestions are welcome.

on my 03 four runner there are two antennas, one in each of the rear side windows. One for am, and one FM The stock stereo has two antenna wires going to the deck. The am antenna cable is the smaller of the two cables. I would try buying a cheap regular antenna and plug it into the FM spot to see if your tuner works. If it does, then your antenna is the issue. The 4runners antenna has a power booster too. Maybe you've blown a fuse and the antenna isnt getting power?
Because the antenna is in the window, it will be hard to replace it without replacing the window. Maybe the cable going to the antenna got disconnected..

Anyway, just some ideas.
