Morning folks.....Besides the obvious problem of punching holes through the roof, what other issues might I run into?

Anybody mounted ANYTHING on the ceiling?

What kind of buffer, if any, is between the ceiling and the roof?

I realize this is probably the most sensitive place to do any drilling. I wanna be able to mount my carbine in an easily accessible location.

Help me out.

I mounted a ham radio there.

There is almost 2" of air between the headliner and the roof, room for the side curtain airbags, stereo transducers, the dome lights, and some of the wiring harness. There are some stiff styrofoam blocks in strategic places to stiffen the headliner.

You can do it, but what you'll want to do is drop your headliner, attach some 2x4" wood blocks to the roof (I used marine-grade epoxy cement), re-install the headliner, and screw your quick fists or other mounts into the 2x4's through the headliner.

You can see a couple of pictures of what's above my headliner and how I mounted my radio here: OVERHEAD HAM RADIO: Inst. w/ pics - Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum
