this is not specific to a tercel, but my daughter drives a 91 tercel and it would not start yesterday.

it would not turn over at all, no lights, nothing. like the battery was completely dead.

i was able to easily jump it and drove it home. turned it off and then tried to restart it. it did the same thing as before, so i took the battery out and had it checked. the battery is fine.

i reinstalled the battery and it works fine now.

i am thinking it is a short somewhere.

should i start with replacing the batter cables maybe? i just cleaned them a few weeks ago as they were pretty gunked up.

thanks,
pat

Yup, sounds like cables at the terminals. You probably don't need new cables, you can probably get away with buying some new clamps and putting those on. Clamps are cheap enough that, when they are fawked, rather than try to clean/bend/whatever, I just put new ones on.
