on john winstead's old 60, how did you adjust the emergency brake? it currently does not engage, and paul said you had adjusted it once. hoped maybe you could throw some pointers my way on how to do it.

Rear drum breaks might need to be adjusted. There should be a slot on the inside of the drum (easiest access on a lift) that you can put a flat head screwdriver in to turn an adjustment wheel.

too true, but this is a disc conversion, and apparently this isn't as easy as that. just hoped for an idea how to do it on this truck, so i could get it up and running soon. thanks, though, that would have been fantastic info otherwise, and i appreciate it very much. thank you.

Disk breaks should be self adjusting. If the self adjustment doesn't seem to be working then somethings probably not working right with the breaking assembly and should be looked at.

true. they SHOULD be, but that isn't the case right now, and i had hoped to find out what was done previously, so that i can look into that very issue.
the disc conversion was done using monte carlo brakes, and what i've been told is that they worked in the past, but have needed adjustment. since it isn't a stock config, i thought i'd ask for some pointers on how to make any adjustments, to get them usable again...
maybe that info is useful to others who may know how to resolve the issue. any input is greatly appreciated.

The only manual adjustments I've done to disk breaks was to get new pads on them, but that's the wrong direction. I basically just used some adjustable C-clamps, and I'm not sure if that same method will work as well the other direction.

You have to have someone strong pull and release the e brake while you tap the caliper fairly hard with a hammer......... they are supposed to ratchet every time you use it, but over the years if they are not used regularly it stops working.......your assistant needs to pull it as far as it will go, and they still don't work well, the OEM used a foot pedal which had mush more power than the hand cranker.
