i am looking at a 1996 80 with 150,000 miles and the owner says that he has put on detriot lockers for the front and rear. is that possible? what are the good and bad of having these versus having factory also what do i need to be looking for when i inspect for the lockers to see if they are really there? thanks jason

If he put a detroit autolocker in the front, he must have converted it to part-time 4wd. If he did not, that's going to make for some interesting steering characteristics when the front locks up going around a corner. He could have put one of the selectable Electracs(or something like that) in the front. I believe that one opperates as a limited slip, and then has the option to be selected as a full locker. Make sure you find out which one he did.

You can always swap the 3rd if it hasnt been regeared. I would avoid a full time locker in the front.

I don't know, a detroit in the front with a part time kit and a center diff switch would be tight. Plenty strong too. Not to mention the extra mpg's.
