REAL TIME- Putting in new side cover gskt... no bolt holes?

I went to to the dealer and picked up a new side cover gasket for my '86 2F and it has no bolt holes, am I missing something? It doesn't appear that the gasket is supposed to line up inside of the bolt holes, but maybe I'm wrong...... any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

It may be a defective part as the dimensions appear to be correct but the holes are conspicuously absent. In any event, I appreciate the prompt response. Thanks Jim.

What's a side cover gasket?

The gasket that corresponds with the pushrod cover on the right side of the engine. The cover bolts to side of the engine just inside of the distributor and oil filter and is about 15"x5"

DIH - Just went through this two days ago. Leaked like crazy the first time, so reading a bunch of threads with info from guys like Jim C and Mark A, I gently flattened the holes in the side cover with a ball peen and block of wood (frequently distorted from over tightening), and used some Toyota FIPG 00295-00103 on both sides of the gasket. Tighten just until the stuff starts to squeeze out.

NO more leaks!

Incidentally, Toyo gasket with all the holes...

Good advice Spike, I'll pick up some of that sealant. You lucked out on the bolt holes, probably has to do with astrological symbols and the alignment of the stars.....

Hey, what good is a hole unless you can fill it :ban::cheers:

Oh that is it! I'm calling the F.C.C.! :flamingo:

Ahhh I know which one now...drivers side..by the oil filter.

The sealant will probably work better than the gasket, every place I use it, leaks are gone. You can also cut the holes in the new gasket, or make a new gasket using the cover as a template; tapping lightly the piece of gasket material with a small hammer against the gasket cover, same for locating the holes.:hillbilly::wrench:
