any one here ever try one of these? Claims you can use a winch to pull out of sand, up hills etc when no anchor points are around. I want one.

I have not used one, but there was an article in the July/August issue of 4WD Toyota Owner in which they went on an expedition down the Continental Divide, from Montana to New Mexico. They at one point had to use one to winch out of a washout. I had not seen or heard of them until then, but it worked for them. Provided enough anchor to winch out a fully loaded, expedition set-up 80 series.

Uncle Sam is proported to use those (the appropriately sized ones) and you know that's some heavy junk.
They are available to fit down to ATV size.

I've never used one, but have heard lots of favorable reviews over the years.

The British army has a rocket propelled groundanchor shaped much the same on their armoured tracked recovery vehicle, THAT'S BAD-:):):)

Bill Burke demonstrates how one works in his off-road recovery video. Pretty cool but very exspensive for what it is IMHO. However, as with most off road recovery gear, one use and it was worth every penny.

Danforth boat anchor works the same and costs less.

seeing as someone else has posted this and not been ridiculed i'll go
ahead and admit that i used a delta 14lb anchor for years with great
success (as far as holding power for the size a delta is hard to beat)...

Yeah, I was wondering if they have any viable competition.
Here's the one they use in Australia and it looks like they have a dealer in Canada. It's probably not any cheaper though.

It would be a fitting addition to the UZJ100, AKA the land yacht.

Neat tools that really only work in sand/small gravel environments. I have not gotten the one I have to work yet (tried 3 times)
