i have just recently bought a 1975 FJ40 land cruiser...when i bought it, it had a PTO winch but i like the modern winches....does anyone have a suggestion on which winch to keep on my land cruiser????

For off road use get the electric. That's from someone with PTO's!

If you are using it for around the farm or ranch then a PTO makes sense.

I'm moving this to the '40 series forum where it should be as we're talking '40 series here anyways.

The PTO's are great - just don't overload it - and always use a snatch block. That being said - if you buy and electric make sure it is an 8274 warn.

Love the old PTO but x2 for the Warn for the ease of use. The only issue that I don't like with PTO is the engine has to be running to use. You should be able to get $$ for the PTO if it is in decent shape.

PTOs are junk please send it to me.

Hey mate,

Before I had a PTO on my old FJ-40, and now I have a Warn 8274 on my 70 series Light Duty, both winches are excellent, but the PTO winch is the best I've had and I've seen work in the worst conditions (Jungle expeditions, Hard-rescue, etc), if conserve because it's got a GOLD :grinpimp:

if i decided to sell this pto winch how much are one of these things worth....i have the whole kit to put it on with..
