I have a pto winch that I really like but pto winches have their drawbacks so I am thinking about getting a electric winch, so my question is what winch to go with? I am thinking about a 8274 but would like somthing a little smaller in size, is there anything that compares? Thanks.

i have never found a drawback to the pto winch but use both. check out the thread on this page wich winch should i choose there is good info there or go to search.ithink you will find the 8724 is the choice for most cruiser owners good luck

Drawback being the fact that if your engine dies in the middle of a mud hole due to water on distrubuter or air cleaner gets wet, or? a pto winch is usless until you get the engine running. I will probably end up with a 8274. Thanks, Chuck
i havnt had a wet engine die in many years since i waterproof my off road trucks .but just in case i have a 10,000 lb electric on the back and a factory pto on the front.i have rescued many trucks in groups that had run all there batteries run down .mabey you can have the best of both worlds and run 2 winches good luck on your choice

Yes That would be best, electric in back, I have thought about that, maby I will wait and go that route.
