The cotter pin on my BJ70 PTO winch broke and I have been trying to line up the 2 holes for a long time and cant seem to find where the pin goes in
Seems like everytime I turn the shaft coming from the tranny the reciever part on the winch just wants to slide around and not let me find where the hole in it is for the pin to slide thru.not to mention I am trying to do this in my yard in the mud. The winch is from a BJ74 installed by the PO.
Any suggestions or teqniques would be greatly appriciated

Thanks

never worked on it but here is a sugestion.

If you can take it apart use a florecent highlighter pen and stripe a line around shaft in line with the hole. So when you move the shaft forward you can see the ring, then turn it in either direction and the hole will be visable.

perhaps engage the dog clutch so the winch input shaft won't turn. But I like haryv's answer better.
