I am replacing my starter and the light bulb went off...I should change the fuel filter that has been on my shelf for over a year! I have been dreading the fuel filter change. It was a breeze with the starter out of the way.

I did not notch the mount on the new filter for the rear bolt, didn't need to.

I did loosen the 17mm banjo bolts before lossenig the 12mm bolts mounting the filter.

I did also attach the 17mm banjo bolts to finger tight before mounting the filter up with the 12mm bolts.

Once the filter was mounted, I went back and tightened the banjo bolts to 22 ft/lbs. Easy job!

After going through this PITA a few months ago I can see where this is a good idea.

Good call on the while-you-are-in-there with the starter. Just changed my fuel filter while doing the @Photoman upgrade on my alternator. After removing the previous alternator, removed the oil filter and had a pretty strait view of the fuel filter. Got the ends from the top and from under the rig used a 2 foot 3/8 extension, a 3" wobble head impact extension and a 4' regular extension above that with the socket to get to the bolts going in to the intake. About an hour and 15. The wobble head in the middle helped get around the slightly less than direct route it had to take. I didn't take the tire off for this go. might try that next time. ...Fuel filter says 2007 on it.
