Not knowing much myself about these trucks I would like to know the pros/cons of it. I know toyota does not make it anymore. your comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

95+ Gen Toyota Trucks (10 Viewing)
Covering the later Tacoma, 3rd Gen 4Runner, T100, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander and other 4WD Toyota rigs

they only have 8k post compared to our 441,943 so not as active... but there should be some people kicking around there able to help you out

iv heard 2 things
A) they were discontinued b/c they had reliability issues
B) they were sued by ford b/c of copy right infringement

i dont know what the case was... but the vehicle was not manufactured for very long and that will make parts & after market support limited
w/that many miles and that price range you can get a nice fzj80

if you just really want a toyota truck though you have to look @ this, a tacoma or tundra that year w/that many miles those kind of options will be twice the price or more iv bought my share of "GREAT DEAL!s" and well.... you get what you pay for :bang:

He has a 92 fzj80 that he is selling to get this truck. He hauls a number of kayaks and claims the truck would be better for that purpose.
thanks for the reply.

T100 is a good truck! It doesn't get very good gas mileage, is a little sluggish, and it has an interference engine. Other than that they are solid rigs. For that price he would be in good shape.

I will say though that the Tundra is the same size, gets the same mileage and it is way more powerful. Speaking of the V8 model of course. Some say the T100 burns up head gaskets. I dunno, none of the ones that I know about had that problem. The Tundra is the nicer rig, but expect to pay twice as much for it.

In 99' the V6 would be the 5vzfe and is not an interference engine. 3RZ (4 cyl) is, but has a chain, not a belt.

Edit: matter of fact, 3VZFE V6 is non interference also.......you must have had 2.7L

No, and No.
Early t100 had the 3vze.... bla bla bla and 2wd's had a 3rzfe.
They switched to the 3.4 (5vzfe) after 94?
Neither the 3.4 or the 3rzfe can be said to be unreliable.

The original T-100 concept (called the T-150) was what ford had a problem with (retarded)

Basically, they were a slightly oversized tacoma, without additional power to make up for the extra size.
Not enough chassis variations, not enough power for it's size, etc, made it not sell so well.
THAT'S why it was discontinued. (money)

Only the 4 cylinder is an interference engine. (3rzfe in t100)
In 12+ years (since the 3rzfe was still new basically) I have YET to see an RZ engine lose a chain.

Tundra is SLIGHTLY larger, in a few dimensions, same in others.

The 3vze has head gasket issues (bla bla bla) and the EARLY 3.4's had an external coolant leak head gasket issue.

I live in a pretty dry place with next to no salt used on the roads and every T100 I have seen has a case of rust on the body sheet metal.
3rd gen 4Runners have no rust here except the rear bumper extensions from not washing crud out of them and I have not seen a Tundra around here with cancer on the bodies.

What does the DX represent on the T100 DX? Looking at a 97 DX myself. Thanks (Sorry for the hijack)

Wrong WRONG. The T-100 went away because they came out with the Tundra which fit the US market better. Ask anyone that knows the T-100 is one of the best all around v-6 light duty pick up. Very realible.

There are also many parts out there that are common with the Tacoma and 4 Runner. ie engine ect ect.

You could find one with lowers miles. Great Truck.

Fact is always better than fiction Toyota makes good SUV and Trucks.

I keep driving by 1 for sale here locally. Regular cab, white 2 wheel drive with some rust on it. $3500.oo asking
I'm thinking it would be a great addition and if the engine blew well perhaps the spare 3B diesel could go in it.:D or the whole LC under it.

What is common with 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runners for instance?
Rear diff, transmission, wheels or would my 82 Landcruiser have any useful parts? hmmm a T100 Cruiser.... or does a TLC100 sound good?... I know too much LDS in the 60's

T100s are great trucks. Do some searching in this forum and you will find a good bit of info. The 3.4 has adequate power, is very reliable, and gets 22 mpg on the freeway. The only real downside is the lack of clamshell doors to access the back seat. My T has 175k on it and runs like a top. That is an excellent price.

DX = base model - manual windows & door locks, bench seat, manual tranny, AM/FM radio but often no cassette player, possibly no AC.

SR5 = loaded - power windows & locks & mirrors, possible bucket seats, upgraded stock stereo

There are some seriously uninformed comments in this thread....

I have never owned one, but I used to drive a 2wd 97? almost everyday. And my buddy has a nice 99' 4wd, which is for sale by the way. I don't know much beyond what I said and the fact that his topper fits on my Tundra and my Tundra seems like the more refined truck. That's all, good luck!
