I have some rust near my trailer hitch insert and the paint is flaking off some around the outside of it. I am not talking about on the inside of the insert as that is always going to have rust but more around the outside of it. Does anyone know what paint would match best?

I assume half of the replies would typically be "I buy flat black Krylon" or "I just touch it up with Rust-O-Leum etc. but was wondering if anyone had anything more specific.

I’m about to hit mine with POR. Never used it on a car frame/undercarriage before but have used it on other things like my floating dock and the stuff is bullet proof. As with any paint, adherence is key.

That’s heavy metal man... won’t rust through for sure and it seems all receivers do that, usually on the corners. And yep, flat or satin Rustoleum is just fine. The POR 15 I have used is a gloss. If you like a glossy receiver that works.

Eastwood makes a great satin-finish paint specifically for frames/chassis that I've had great results with in the past. It's sold in spray cans and regular cans and -while more expensive than your garden variety Krylon- it's not terrible expensive.

For undercarriage spots on welds, etc.... I have always used a wire brush and then some flat black rustoleum. Haven't had any issues. I crawl under the truck for a few hours every spring and hit the identifiable spots.
