Does anybody know what size IMPCO carburator/mixer is campadible with the 2F? I was thinking 425 but then I looked on IMPCO's website and they matched me up with one way smaller. I plan on building the motor for propane(high compression). Any ideas?

425 is fine for a 2F

That is what I use.

BTW, buy new..

Course I'll see one that needs a rebuild for like $50 :D

Do you trust rebuilt units? Is rebuilding much different from that of a gasser?

Impco carbs get richer as they age. A brand new one will get better mileage..

There are a total of three gaskets to replace. It is amazingly easy..

Are you running open or closed loop. I'm building this rig for trail use only, so I was thinking open loop was all I needed. Any more advice? :)

currently I am running open. Although I am switching to closed when I get around to putting the new carb on the truck..

What are you looking for?? Adjust your timing to 32* at full advance.
Close your plug gap..

Hot plugs are useless on a propane motor

Shave your head to get better compression to utilize the 105ish octane..

I saw where you are running about a 9:1 compression with a turbo. What do you think that effectively raises the compression too? I am thinking 11:1 will work well on a normally aspirated motor.

I am running a tired old stock cruiser motor with my turbo..

Compresison is more like 7.5:1 or so..
I have gotten 12 lbs of boost with it though.. Kick in the pants really..
11:1 on a cruiser motor even with propane will be a hard thing to keep from pinging..

keep it more like 9.5:1 or so..

To run closed loop you need an O2 sensor to modulate the mixture..
Autotronics makes a nice closed loop kit for the 425..

the cool thing about closed loop propane is that if the electronics fail you revert back to open loop..

The carb is the same. It just gives you better mileage..

Hey Scott, have you heard anything else about a carb mounting plate?

get a holley butterfly plate (360 would work nicely) and a 2 to 4 barrell adapter.

Bolt it on..

Jesterb,
I've been trying to contact the propane guy through email to no avail. I will try and call him today though.

I've been told the 2 to 4 adapter was a bad idea. Do you know why that would be so?

Cannot think of one..

On a gas motor I can see a potential mixture issue. But with a propane carb you are already dealing with a vapor..

Who told you it was a bad idea???

You could always get a Offy 4 barrell 2F manifold ...

To be honest I cant remember. I've read so many posts on the issue that they are starting to run together. I might be confused with using a dual carb to single carb adapter.

Heard from Roy(propaneguy) and he told me to ship out the mounting plate from the carb. I'll keep you posted.
