Hey there

Well, I just finished reading a thread or two on some customer fab work on making carts. Well my son, 16 years old, just finished his Eagle Scout project. It consisted of fund raising money to cover the cost of material and then the execution of making a cart for this children's center playground and also adding benches to a little gazebo type thing they had.

He wanted to do this part, the cart, by himself. Since the other part he led the other scouts and such to build it. The point of these projects are leadership, but he added this so he could get some fab work in too.

It is built out of angle iron and expanded metal, for the most part. All the design, cutting, and welding was done by him. Here are some starter pics..

I didn't have my camera on the first day of work, so it starts out with some shape here.

Then the guy next to our shop, a powdercoater, offered to powdercoat the cart free of charge. Since it was a for the community type of thing.

On the front, it's pretty simple, 3/8" bar, slide some wheels on them, drill a hole in the bar, throw some washers on, and put in a cotter pin.

The rear are swivel wheels, drilled three holes on each side, cut some spacers out of pipe, and bolted them up with stainless nylocks.

Overall I think it came out very good, not to bad for some 16 year old fab work. It kinda has that korny playground look, but it is also very functional. I'm told it is loaded up with the kids toys and playground balls now. Good to here it's getting some use.
