Primitive'ish Camping (1 Viewer)

I need to get my boys(12 & 8) into the woods top top some wilderness camping. Preferably near a river, but also nearby amenities if possible. Is there somewhere in the upstate or NC that has beautiful scenery in the woods near a river(if I choose to take the fly rod) so that we can livelier cook, teach them knife skills, hike and so on?

Davidson River Campground - you're right outside Brevard, on the Davidson river just below the hatchery. Plenty of miles of hiking and lots of waterfalls to hunt down, which was always one of our favorite activities.

It's usually beautiful there this time of year - my wife and I would go for our anniversary in late October up until the year we left SC.

Check out Burrlels Ford, right on the Chatooga River, lots of hiking, not far from Ellicot's Rock, also the fish hatchery is just up the road.
