Pretty quiet in here... what are you working on? (1 Viewer)

We’ll see if it fits in the garage first! I’d probably source the Delta 3L or possibly the Eimkeith lower mounts if I do go 37’s. Already have the Delta 3 which are perfect for the lift right now.
I have a set of the Eimkeith lower mounts if you need them, I went another route. Brand new and can ship.

Thanks @matzell ... I'll let you know in a week or so once I can test fit and see where I am for garage space, gearing, etc., to see if I want to pursue the 37 option. I definitely like the eimkeith option and open to that since I have the Delta 3's already.

Got the rear heater bypass hoses in…I’ve never used it, so I wanted to eliminate some plumbing and clamp connections…this doesn’t include anything under the truck…16 hose clamps reduced to 4!

I didn’t get to the Koso temp gauge yet, I want to pull the elbow off of the block to drill/tap, but unfortunately it cannot come off without removing the alternator bracket… I’ll probably drop it once it warms up a bit, want to complete before new antifreeze goes in since it’s drained at the moment.

PAIR delete…going to install the Koso water temp gauge and delete rear heater core plumbing soon, possibly tomorrow if I get time.

Also grabbed some wheel spacers from Drew to play with fit on the 37’s that I grabbed from Ahmad. Mainly to see if I mind gears on 37’s, if good I’ll get a proper set of tires for mine… ;) Just scuffed the rear calipers so I couldn’t test ride as is.

Oh she is sexy!

Glass from the donor hatch is in, had Mike with Windshield City do it yesterday. After watching him install it, it’s definitely something I could do myself, but hopefully I never need to!

Some minor stuff, but a huge QOL improvement. Replaced the rear hatch struts on the truck this evening. Took about 15 mins with holding the (surprisingly heavy) hatch with one arm and loosening/tightening the bolts with another. No more hitting my head on a drooping hatch!

Also replaced the rear wiper arm. One of the previous owners replaced the stock rear wiper arm with the JDM one, but it must have been a knock-off or something because it never wiped evenly. It always left streaks and made a terrible noise. Ordered an actual JDM one from someone here on mud and put it on. Very easy and now I have a quiet wiper.

Now for a car wash!

With how cold it's been, anyone deal with issues of their swingouts being frozen. Pull pins for me have been frozen and wasn't able to pull them until I put a torch on it to heat up the grease that was in there.

Anyone have a solution or is this just part of being a cool guy with swing outs?

Been a hot sec since I've posted here, but I've mostly finished the bumper/winch project. Everything's been bolted on and wired up for about a month, drives pretty well on the street but with the extra weight on the front I find myself rubbing a bit more when driving uphill and turning. I guess the solution here is a ~1 in front sensor lift + more pinch weld hammering?

While doing the wiring, I tried replacing my battery terminals with Morosos, but I was only able to swap out the positive terminal as the existing negative terminal can't be separated from the line itself. Crimping tool and new ends should be arriving today. I also need to find a place to mount the winch cutoff switch. Sidenote, the 27F DieHard Silver in the picture died about a week ago, this thing was only making 3 volts despite being under 2 years old. I took it back to Advance Auto, turns out it only comes with a 1 year warranty... sucks, but I needed a new battery the next day so I went ahead and bought another 27F DieHard Silver, thankfully the store manager was kind enough to give me the commercial rate.

Went to Canaan Loop with @imperium, @kouki, and some friends on Saturday. With 2 feet of snow, we made it about 30 mins into the trail before turning around. I hadn't driven in snow before so it was lots of fun. Then, just as I thought I was getting the hang of it, I hit a 90 degree slide and ended up stuck perpendicular to the trail. The new winch came in clutch and I was able to pull myself out. I've heard so many people say that they only needed to winch several years after installing theirs, but somehow I managed to use mine on the first trip. I ended up skidding out a few more times... moral of the story, don't wheel on snow in 2nd.

I also figured out why my truck is now so LOUD - the fan clutch is completely shot. I thought it was all wind noise from the new bumpers + sliders + tires, but nope, that fan doesn't want to move. New Aisin part should also be arriving today, but with the crazy cold and no garage, it might be a bit until I can get it on.

New projects list:
  • Install negative battery terminal
  • Replace fan clutch
  • Mild front sensor lift + additional pinch weld hammering
  • Take off skid plates and get truck/frame undercoated

Lube with silicone spray. It will repeal water and keep lubed.

I just clipped my cable and put ring term's on them. Then added the @sleeoffroad battery terms. Easy peazy...

May be hard to see but the upper end of that battery term has both attached to them

Let me know if you need to borrow a terminal press...they're cheap, but amazingly functional. I used this when making my own custom winch and battery leads.

been staring at this chip for a couple years now. came back from CA last night to find this

got off the phone with Mike from Windshield City. wish i'd stockpiled an OE gasket to have for when this day came. he can get one for me, but the local dealer isn't known for their competitive pricing

Graphite. It will not gel up and doesn't attract anymore dust than would normally be there anyway. The hinges are not going to get much repeated use anyway so its a win/win

You should be equally pissed that you didn't stockpile a couple OEM windshields. Get ready for some Chinese glass going in.

true. i also own an old BMW, and there are SOOOOO many parts no longer available i wish i'd bought and stashed away. oil pumps, timing chain parts, dashboards, etc. but my garage is already overflowing and storing entire spare parts catalog for every vehicle i own is not in the cards :)

hopefully a chinese windshield isn't any worse than the cracked, chipped, and sandblasted aftermarket one currently installed.

The NLA things is the reason I got out of old Mercedes.
Some people seem to enjoy parts hoarding. I find it a pretty miserably (and costly) exercise.

Cutting back on the car brands is a definite to-do for 2025. The Bronco has to go, and hopefully at least one other rando.

When I got my truck, it had a “Benson Lamishield” Chinese windshield. Several months later, a pinecone fell from a tree I had parked under and somehow broke the glass.

They replaced it with another presumably Chinese aftermarket windshield and I haven’t had any issues with it in the 2 years since. I’d feel bad about breaking an OEM windshield, but if something happened to this one, eh, whatever.

my thoughts exactly. i view windshields as disposable as i WILL get a rock chip...its just a matter of how soon.

on that old BMW (which is also bonded in like the 80 series), i just did a glass out re-paint, fixed the rust in the frame, bought an OE windshield from the dealer, and had it installed. when in a short time later took a rock to the glass. had to have it done all over again...but couldn't get OE glass. SMH.

Glass is Glass, I have aftermarket glass in almost everything I own, never had and issue.
