I remember doing it with my mom driving when we test drove a D2. Paul Miller in NJ. Sadly we didn’t get one but also probably for the better. I did own a D1 for a few years and miss it but it was also a PITA even though it was one of the best years.

I really like our D2. It reminds me so much of an 80. It just features a bunch more failure points. lol

Ended up with mine because 100 prices had gone totally insane, and the D2 is maybe 40-50% of the cost. At least on the acquistion. Paying somebody to wrench on it isn't cheap, but that's just the way it goes.

@Mojo Jojo if you're anywhere near Sterling, talk to Mike at Windshield City. He's the absolute master of glass in this area.

If you search the pinned "local resources" thread, you'll find that he's probably doing most of the glass work for mudders in this area.
Thanks for the lead! I'm in Harpers Ferry so close enough I could make it work. I'll contact them and see where it goes.

I will never ever buy anything Land Rover. My uncle was working as a contract engineer in Libya for a oil company when his brand new Range Rover Defender 90 with 2000 kms that was assigned to him decided the oil pump needed to separate at a place called. Idhan Murzuk. He was able to radio his situation and walked 87 kms at night by land navigation to a outpost. He was picked up 2 days later and the truck was recovered a month later. It was taken back to Tripoli where it was sent back to a Land Rover dealer that had provided it to the company in Italy.
He wrote a letter of complaint telling them how badly the vehicle had been made and Land rover apologized and sent him an umbrella.

To clarify I did the laughing emoji due to their recourse being an umbrella, not because of the land nav exercise.

They're not for everyone.
In my case, 8 grand for clean, low mile, one owner rig was good value. Can't really touch anything for that these days. It just gets used for running errands and bad weather.

Oh I know. He had a navigation background from the navy so he was confident in his skills but no so confident in his physical abilities but he toughed it out. He would always respond with a expletive when you brought up Land Rovers. He told that story as way to get all of us to prepare for things that you might have to deal with on the road ( or in a desert)

Just dropped the LX off to get the actuator and OTT tune done. Hoping to make the February Flagpole run among other trips I will make and let the crew know about. Miss the trails so really hoping this gets me back out there.

At least your Ironman came with instructions, my kit just came with a pair of these and no further context:

Any update on the final install? I'm about to order the same bumper and attempt to jump up to 285/70s with my +0 Sahara's. Curious how your clearance experiences have been with your setup, was the pinch/weld massaging enough? I'm just running stock AHC for now.

That guy works on Land cruisers? He worked on my sister-in-laws 1996 tacoma since she lived in Lignum right there and it has 468K on so he must be doing something right.

Took a big chance on this thing. If it works, will need to look at a replacement (taller) trans hump and resetting the half H55/half H41 shift lever angle.

Also, what a bummer. I just rebuilt these before Fall Crawl. The driver side axle moves quite a bit, and you can hear/feel the birf joint impacting the axle housing on turns. That may be why. Kinda baffled on this one. The retaining clip in the freewheel hub is in place, but it bottoms out against the housing before the retaining circlip does its job. As you can see, my backing plates are gone but I do have manafree backing plate eliminator spacers on it.

How did it go with your sister in law?

Seems to? Lol. He did the OTT install on a friend’s 5th Gen 4 Runner and said he has done some work on LCs. Figured I would roll the dice on him with this as he seemed to know his stuff. So far communication has been great so hoping this goes well.

What’s a OTT?
She used him a lot but it is probably more of a testament to his patience that his mechanical skills because she was a complete pain in the ass to deal with

Wasn’t there a thread on mud on how to just trim the hump to fit the F55?
As far as your Brif leaking that sucks. It sounds like the birf is not seated fully but if it’s deep enough to get the C clip on it I don’t get that.

Regarding the trans hump fitment- I don't think I'll have to. The H55 is taller, but there is enough stretch in the outer shift boot that it will work, but the inner and outer boots will be rubbing.

On the Birf, yeah very annoying. It is the first time I have not had a seal 'take' and am not excited about going back and doing this one again. The issue with lateral axle movement is that the birf joint travels inward and bottoms out against the housing before the circlip inside the freewheel hub arrests it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

OTT is some tuning company. They have an engine tune for his and coming out with a trans tune. They have both available for the LC and LX. Some more power, but mainly changed the throttle response and torque curve.

A few snow pics. Took the 4R out for a drive for my in-laws visiting from Osaka. They never see snow like this and very much enjoyed a drive through fresh powder. KO2s did great in the snow as has always been my experience...

Hoping to go wheeling in the 40 in the snow over the next few days.
Wasn’t the taskers gap trip I wanted but I went though the fields today in the 40.
