Finally started prepping the lift gate that @JohnVee and Jessica from ONSC helped me get from Asheville!

I’m swapping lift gates because the rust under the window channel on mine came back after attacking it last year.

it needed some very minor cosmetic and rust work. Hit it with a wire wheel and Ospho yesterday. Primed and then painted/cleared the top side today.

I plan to combine the best bits from my current lift gate and this one. I am looking for some parts but the crustiest ones are NLA of course. We’ll see.

I also plan to add an LED 3rd brake light from GoWesty
because dc/md/va drivers. I’ll also replace the rear window washer line while I’m at it.

Check out that super clean window channel. Hope it stays that way 🙏🏻

Nice. I'm planning my 32x26 attached garage and am always scrounging for ideas and inspiration.
26' deep is not deep enough. I have had two that were 28 deep and it was tight with a full size truck, although I could squeeze in a CCLB truck on occasion.

What are the dimensions of yours? I suppose that's a 4 ft knee wall of block so the rest of the walls can use standard 8 ft 2 bys? I love that rafter design.

24" of block, 117" 2x6 stud walls. comes to 2' of block and 10' wood walls plus 1 1/2" for the sill plate.

I have used the same style scissor trusses on the last two garages. It really opens it up in there and you can put in a "high lift" door that follows the ceiling and allows for more room when lifting a vehicle that might have a roof rack on it or antennas. The original plan was to have storage over the bay on the left but I did not catch it when I signed off on the plans or the count on the trusses. It cost me more money to do it this way and I lost storage space, but ideally I do not want to climb up a 12' ladder to put something up there. When I moved I found I had 1/2 a FJ40 up in the storage of my last one that I had forgotten about! I have two sheds on the property to store stuff so I really do not need the extra storage, I feel like a hoarder as it is with my two connex boxes at work full of stuff!

Speaking of paint/body work and garages I’d like to reseal my rain gutters this winter if I can. My friend offered up garage space but it needs to be above 70F for the epoxy to cure.

does anyone have something like this I could borrow for a week or 2? I’d provide the propane of course.

yes I have one of those I am not using at the moment you can barrow it. I will try and dig it out and bring it to the meeting.

Thanks! not sure I’ll be able to make the next meeting but will keep you posted. Let me check with my friend—not sure if the garage is free in the near-term.

10-4 just let me know when you need it.

I am a bit limited with respect to depth. I know it's not ideal, but it is what it is. I will be able to get the tundra in and on a lift, though with little to nothing in front of it when in there.

Yea, I've been doing a lot of reading/planning about building a detached workshop on our eight acre property in Marshall when we return from New Mexico. I have a good location that's about 20' x 40'. I might be able to stretch it to 25' x 45'. Since it'd primarily be an auto shop I'll likely go with a metal building to minimize the fire risk even though I prefer the look of wood. Looking at options for a heated concrete pad, 2 post lift, and 14' high roll up door to accommodate a cab tractor and RV. I'm not into RV's personally, but I think having a space capable of storing an RV could be a selling point down the road.

Thats got pole barn written over it. That way there is no need to worry about pouring footers etc...
If I could do a pole barn, I would.

so got the engine bay all degreased and cleaned on the LX450, there was a bit of water in the car when i got it so got all that cleaned up, clean the sunroof drains and adjusted the glass. Well after all the heavy rain that we got in southern MD i'm happy to report that we still have a dry interior

and took it on it first test drive to the gas station, happy that the gas gauge works ( i thought it was broken but it was just running on hopes and dreams ) truck drove very well, temps all stayed in range, trans felt good, motor feels strong.

next on the list is a coolant flush ( it does have toyota red in it but idk how long its been in there ) fix the exhaust, and locate a front drive shaft for it

I just did around 3000 miles on mine with an ARB roof rack, Thule load bars, and 2 kayaks. I have 12 gas receipts plus a few stops where no receipt came out. I’d wager I blew through about $600+ in gas.

So I think I got the oil pan leaks all button up (had to tighten the bolt all to 104 in-lbs plus a quarter turn) but it looks like the fuel pump gasket might be seeping a little. I just swapped that out not too long ago and I'm mostly sure I got the old gasket scraped off before putting the new one on (OEM). Think I can use a little FIPG along with a new gasket to seal that up or it that not a good idea?

I might have a front shaft. I’ve got driveshafts everywhere. I’ll need to dig. Is the pattern the same across all years of the 80 series? 90-97?

My wife decided to use the map pocket as a foot rest and then boosted herself off it while wearing #beanboots (😂😭) so I took the opportunity to do two other projects involving the door. Added sound/heat insulation from Noico and wired in two relays so the window moves faster than molasses. the label maker even got in on the fun.

the relays made a huge difference. Three more doors to go. The driver door already has relays for that window but you can add relays to help the central door lock switch.

Did sound deadening in the passenger rear door and after buying a bunch of wire to extend the relay pigtails attacked adding the relays. It came out wayyy cleaner this time.

The relays will mount down low out of the way of the window without putting any stress on the wires. Still plan to add some split loom and a ring terminal for the ground.
