My 96 Land cruiser is prewired for center diff lock, all one needs to do is install a switch. Does anyone know if Tacomas are also pre-wired with elock?

Thanks in advance.

Not quite sure what you're asking. To clarify are you asking whether the wiring harness includes the wires and plug end to plug the e-locker actuator into near the rear axle or whether there is already a locker in place and just needs a switch to activate?

You cannot just add a switch and have a locking rear diff. You will also need to add either an e-locker axle or retrofit your rear axle to fit an e-locker differential and swap in a locking differential. You would then need the computer box to run the diff. actuator, a dash switch, and the wiring to tie into the harness near the rear axle.

Thank you. That is exactly what i was asking. Great explanation on the answer.

The non-e-locked differentials are an 8.4" design. The TRD E-locked Diff's are an 8.0" and you can't retrofit the diff from one to the other without swapping the entire axle housing.

IIRC the earlier (I want to say pre 99) Tacoma's didn't have the E-locker as an option so I don't think the wiring is there in the earlier taco's.

Unless you can find a deal on the axle housing and e-locker, and are willing to do the wiring modifications yourself, I'd just go with an ARB.

My '98 Taco (TRD) is elocked. I think it's the '95.5-'97 Taco's didn't have the elocker option. There are companies that offer complete wiring set ups for adding elockers to non elocker vehicles.

You can get 95.5-97 Single cabs V6 E-locked (for example), but it was optional. It wasn't added into a package until later.

They are not prewired, but several companies make wiring kits now. Inchworm, 12VoltGuy, and another sell them I believe.
