It's all hypothetical right now but I may be offered a job in Knoxville. Any tips on schools, neighborhoods (or suburbs), etc.? I would cover a territory of Asheville, NC to Nashville and Louisville, KY to Chattanooga so One side of town or the other doesn't really matter.

Any "inside information" is appreciated.

I live in north Knoxville (Halls/Powell) area! I'm 5 miles from I-75. West Knoxville is really nice but all the houses and neighborhoods are right on top of each other. On the north side it is a bit more rural (which I like) . If you come in to look around in k-town give me a shout and I can show you some things .

My in-laws live in Farragut, which is on the west side, basically right at the 40-75 split. RSHARP is right, the west side is much more urban. Mix of new and old neighborhoods. It is that part that folks would call urban sprawl. I will second that the north is much more rural, (RSHARP, random but do you know any Thompson's, got a buddy that went to Gibbs HS) <-- said buddy grew up on a dairy farm.

My wife went to Farragut HS, she has some cousins that went West HS.

Dean Hill is a pretty nice area kind of the older money.

I don't know much about East Knoxville, parts of it seem kind of sketchy from what I have been thru.

It is a pretty nice area and is really close to the Mountains for some great hiking.

East and South Knoxville both are a bit sketchy. I know a bunch of people from Gibbs but not sure of any Thompsons. We won't hold it against you that you married a Farragut chick :) next time you make it in give me a ring and we can get together.

I live downtown and can't complain. You are centrally located to everything you need and I can walk to work and school. I lived in west Knoxville for a year and didn't particularly like it. Traffic out west sucks and most people near where I lived have a sense of entitlement that likely comes from thinking you are nouveau riche. If buying a place, I would look toward east and south Knoxville. While some areas are a bit tough, there are plenty of great neighborhoods with beautiful homes and large yards that are a stark contrast to the suburbia out west. Oh and I should mention that comparable houses are about 50% less than what people are asking out west. I'd rather have a hardwood framed architectural home than a cookie-cutter pine-framed home any day! Of course, I live in an apartment ;)

Ok I'll chime in. Have you guys been to bubbas BBQ on Norris? Get off @ Clinton exit and go east. Had a blast there a couple weeks ago.

Never been there either! Rickard Ridge BBQ Off of Cove Lake exit (I-75 exit 134 I think) KILLER BBQ AND LIVE BLUEGRASS :)

I got the job! I'll start oct first. See y'all around!

Congrats! Let me know if you need an extra hand moving or carrying anything. Keep me updated on the area you move to. Rance

It's been a while...

I ended up in Karns. Really enjoying the area and got to meet some of you at GSMTR. Now I need to know where to have some work done on the 100. Any recommendations? It's the wife's DD and needs new brakes. If I can find time I'll do it but she hauls the kids and my work schedule has me on the road a bit. Also, the 62 needs a water pump. I'll definitely do that myself but may need some help when the time comes. Not a priority right now.

Thanks for any advice.
