Hi all I was wondering if any of you guys or anyone you know have any issues passing DEQ in portland for LS Swapped vehicles? The vehicle will have 2 Catalytic converters, no engine codes, and obd2. Its an 87 fj60. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Get SP plates. No more deq. You qualify because vehicle is over 25 years old
Can you expand on the SP Plates? I was looking at the antique plates and the vehicle has to be like older than 60 years old or something. And on the DEQ site it said 1975 model year and older are exempt. Whats a SP plate?

SP plate is special interest plate. There's several ways to get it one of them is that your vehicle is over 25 years old. Once you have a special interest plate you no longer have to go through DEQ or register the vehicle every other year. Technically, the downside, is that once the vehicle is special-interest you're only supposed to use it for special functions parades Etc. However this is rarely enforced. I know several people who have these plates on their Toyota mini trucks 4Runners Land Cruisers. Most only drive them occasionally, but some use them as a daily driver.

This would definitely be a daily driver. Ill check it out. Thank man

If SP plates don't work out for you, I highly doubt you will have any issue passing DEQ. The way Oregon works is they don't care what engine you have swapped in there as long as it is as clean as the original engine. In other words, they are going to test it as if you still have a 2F. Since an LS runs cleaner than a 2F all day long, you should pass with flying colors.

Ohhhhh okay. If that’s the case I should be good. I made sure to have cats and my motor is stock stock. The motor it replaced was much worse like you said. I think I might just try the test over the specialty plates I suppose

The nice thing about the SP plates is they are permanent. You never have to re-register or go to DEQ again. It also loosens the requirements for things you could get a fix-it ticket for... At the end of the day, the choice is yours. I just want to make sure you have all of the info!

The SP Plate is scrutinized by not allowing the vehicle to be daily driven though right? Like the 60 will be my only vehicle. In theory they could pull you over on a tuesday and hit you with a ticket right?

In theory, yes... However, that officer would have to prove that you are using it outside the scope of the plate. For example, I have driven my SP plated truck to work because there was a club meeting afterwards (even if there was no such meeting).

What I'm saying is there is that is almost impossible to enforce, so the cops don't waist their time on it. It is just a fix-it ticket, not a moving violations so who cares?

Oh I see what you mean now. Where I’m at we don’t really have fix it tickets so that’s a new term for me too hahahah

What did you guys put for the established organization certification? It asks for group name and authorized member.

You don't need to fill that in because your rig is older than 25 years old.

You only need the established organization certification portion filled out if you checked "It has been sanctioned by an established organization as a vehicle of special interest" in the section above. Since you should check "The year model is at least 25 years old", you can skip the next section.
