So here's something that is getting the better of me. While accelerating after coming to a stop, I get a popping noise in the front that can also be felt a bit. It's quite literally like something is popping back into place after stopping. Well this noise is really starting to annoy me. Now here's what has been replaced recently:

shocks,
control arms,
pan hard arm,
sway bar bushings

Now the noise was around before I replaced the control arms, and the pan hard arms are torqued quite well. Spec is ~= 127 but they are at 150+ now due to an incident.

So I'm stumped. The only thing that I think this noise could be now is the ball joints on the sway bar frame mount, or maybe something with the brakes. It only seems to happen after I come to a complete stop and then accelerate.

Any thoughts?

Derek, definitely check the front caliper bolts. Do a search, this has been mentioned as a problem several times. I personally had one of the bolts back out, fall out and at the next stop the caliper rotated on the remaining bolt into the wheel - not pretty. Previous owners and monkeys in garages tend to over tighten and strip these. I'd check the torque on them asap. Good luck.

I had the same problem with my '93 landcruiser. It would pop somewhere under the driver's seat when accelerating from a stop and when going around a corner. I loosened the body mount under the driver's pedals, drove around the neighborhood, and then retightened. I haven't heard or felt the noise since. Might be the same deal with yours.

I've visually inspected the caliper bolts and tried to turn them with my hand and they seem good. When I did my front end service I did torque them to spec, but I've had stranger things happen. I think I'll put a wrench on them this weekend after hearing all the horror stories.

As per Eric's suggestion I think I will check the body mounts as well.

These are some good thoughs. Anymore?

Derek,

Have you considered a stuck caliper's piston ? Jack up the front end; start the engine to use power brake and stomp hard on the brake pedal, then release. Now try to rotate each of the front tires to isolate the issue.

Frank.

Derek, you may wanna check out the axle / u joint as well. My '96 was doing the same thing and that ended up being the problem--loose u joint. Works like a champ now.
