I can't wait until we get rid of THE obamination.

Everybody seems to have blacked out during 01-08?

...almost funny Wild. Funny is the graph of US foreign held debt that W racked up in just 8 short years. Not bad considering ALL the presidents since 1776 added up to 1 trillion.

Nah, President Obama came up with all these economics on his own.

Tell me when you get to the funny part.

I normally refrain from politics on the interweb...but since you brought it up.
(and because I am POed about it )

Liars, cheats and thieves, every damn one of them. It doesn't matter if they are R or D.
I wouldn't pee on any of them if they were on fire.
My new mantra is Recycle!
No incumbent, no professional politicians.
It probably won't workout but at least I will have voted my conscience.:bang:

For governor we get to choose from:
A progressive Dem, White - Nope
The haircare king, Shami - Nope
"Toll Road" Rick Perry - Nope, 2 terms is long enough.
Kay "Bailout" Hutchison - Hell no
or Debra Medina - Sure, why not. Can't do any worse than the other 4 idiots.
At least I don't feel like she's lying to me when her lips move.

The haircare king, Shami - Nope

We already have a muslim president because of all DUMB ASS people that voted for it.
I don't think Texas is ready for a muslim governor.

Dem. or Rep. it doesnt seem to matter any more. For the people by the people seems to have lost its meaning. Mike

And our complacency allows it to continue... Or is it our ignorance?

Pacification. Too many people are so involved with matters of no importance like American Idol, Facebook and Iphone apps that they are oblivious to the real consequences of what is going on.
When their alarm finally goes off it is possible that its going to be a really ugly day they wake up too.

Man....I need to check this board more often....

The US Government has run a deficit budget almost every year since 1969 and these annual deficits contribute to the US Total Debt. There is an increasing growth of Foreign Debt Holders (and that is troublesome); however, the US Treasury security is still considered the safest investment in the world and foreign investors have to invest somewhere...they just prefer US Treasuries vs. another foreign security. The way things are going, even the foreign investors may start questioning the solvency of the USA.

The REAL problem is that the US Gov't. is INCREASING it's deficit spending and growing our national debt at an alarming rate. Much of the credit, rightly goes to President Obama and the Democratically-controlled congress.*

During the 8 years George W. was in office, US public debt rose some 4.3 Trillion. Although Obama's 2009 budget was co-drafted by him & Bush it is OBAMA's yet he continues the blame game.....over a year after he took office. HIS proposed budget will add another 5 Trillion to the debt by 2016 (God forbid he is around after 2012). He is taking credit for "Having steered the economy back from the brink of depression" (The President's Budget), yet he keeps saying he inherited a $1.3 Trillion deficit that he had nothing to do with. HELLO....the Democrats controlled both the House & Senate since 2006 and it was them "that helped shape the massave deficit budgets not to mention the $700Billion Stimulus Spending". See Obama's "inherited" deficit, AP fact checks his fiction for the full (and factual) story.

OBAMA is no doubt a puppet of Harry Reid & Nancy Pelosi who for the past 3 years crammed liberal policies & budgets down American's throat. Well....that my friend...is about to change. Both conservatives & liberals are figuring out that "CHANGE" is not necessarily a good thing. Boston (one of the most liberal states in the country) woke up and broke the majority in the Senate with the election of Scott Brown.* I hope this trend will continue in the future starting with Harry Reid race in Nevada.

Obama & his supporters have been playing on the ignorant and making promises that hard working Americans will have to pay for years (and possibly generations) to come. I don't blame folks that have nothing and/or are suffering for voting in someone promising all sorts of help; however, the government cannot be all things to all people.

When Bush left office the Total National Debt was $10.6 Trillion. It is now $12.4 Trillion Dollars and growing....FAST. Obama's 2010 Budget Deficit is over $1.4 Trillion dollars.

Check out the National Debt Clock at:

It is time for Obama and his liberal friends to start taking RESPONSIBILITY for their actions ! Did Bush lie? Probably so. Do all politians? IMHO....I don't think so. Did/Does Obama? Get your head out of the sand and decide for yourself. [URL="http://www.audacityofhypocrisy.com/fashion-shows/"]http://www.audacityofhypocrisy.com/fashion-shows/

How about Pelosi? (My gosh, she is only 2 away from the President's Seat).

YouTube - Nancy Pelosi's Full Schizophrenic Press Conference - May 14th/2009

America better wake up and replace the inexperienced congress men & women with honest, talented, and experienced men & women if we have fighting chance to get out of the mess we are in and to change the direction our country is heading. I realize there are people on this board that have differing views and that is ok...that is The American Way....it's called Freedom of Speech. I just prefer to have as many facts as possible before slinging mud.

VOTE & let your beliefs be known ! :bounce2:
God Bless America !!!

This is a fun thread.
Good post Russell.

Why don't yall write in Kowboy? He'd probably get a lot of votes!!!

OK here's what bugs me, personally. Please read it and think about it, please don't think I am inviting you to talk with me about it. I am SICK SICK SICK of people treating/speaking about Obama in a way which barely veils a racist attitude. It's beyond disgusting. Obama is not not white. We got it. Don't disrespect the President. I'm sick of hearing about it. I'm sick of the conspiracy theorists. If having a brilliant multicultural Harvard Law man at the helm of our country is a problem, then you better think twice about how the mess the previous moron dealt you, and how he has embarrassed the country occurred. Being extremely smart and being a mix of people's genetics is an ADVANTAGE in dealing with the increasingly relevant and rising world powers. This administration had a HUGE ball of wax handed to it by Clintonian and Bush 2 policy makers that NOBODY could solve in 12 months, yet somehow Obama should have it all figured out in 12 months, at no cost to the Merican public.

Spending to prevent the Greatest Depression EVER was mandatory. The banking system was saved in the only way possible. Damn that spending! Consider the alternative. Why don't people understand that one? I don't like that Wall Street gets huge bonuses but that is how it is and it is contractual.

Finally, two trillion dollar wars gotta be paid for, yet no one will support new taxation. Wonder how we'll pay then? No new taxes, but no cuts in spending. Trillions of dollars fighting, but no increases in paying for the wars.

I'm out. This is a really simple set of problems long in the making. Americans have been living on credit for far too long and look where it's gotten us when we gotta pay up. If that doesn't make sense, run up your Visa and Mastercards to the max, get a third option arm mortgage, get a boat, buy a new thirsty truck and finance it all on a sham balance sheet.

Sit back, cuss at Obama like a YOU have nothing to do with it. Rome is burning, kids. We are ALL guilty on this one.

I'm posting a reply just so I stay subscribed to this thread.

I appreciate both Alex and Russell's point of view. Alas, I consider all politicians to be criminals. I believe we, the public, have to be INVOLVED with the electoral process. We can't just delegate leadership to some specific candidate. If the winner does something you don't agree with, you have the responsibility to write them about it. The Tea Party movement isn't about Republicans and Democrats. It's about local people learning how to participate in government.

Happy Trails Folks!

I told you this was turning into a fun thread.

1- I don't care what race POTUS is, or gender for that matter. My problem with the current President and the majority party in Congress is that their end state vision of a centralized government, that "takes care" of the citizens is very different from our founders fiercely independent, bottom up representative republic.
I don't need nor want the government to "take care" of me. I'll make my own way, thank you.

2-Huge disagreement here. Spending to "save" Wall Street was not mandatory. Sure it would have hurt in the short term but not as bad as what is coming.
I suggest reading This Time is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly by Reinhart
Amazon.com: This Time is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly (9780691142166): Carmen M. Reinhart, Kenneth Rogoff: Books
It is historically proven that "managing" these events is worse than letting them occur naturally.

I agree that the bonus' were contractual and were used by both sides to score soundbytes. The unfortunate thing is that the games are again afoot.
(not my sole source of info but this is a good simple decription of whats been happening. Wall Street's Bailout Hustle : Rolling Stone )
We allowed companies to privatize the gains and subsidized the failures so there has been little change in the ways of doing business and many of the "bigs" are back at it with CDOs and subprime garbage. This like so much else can be lain back at the doorsteps of Congress and the President when the Glass-Stegall Act was repealed that led to the creation of "too big to fail" banks mixing investment assets with insurance and joe publics savings accounts. (It was Clinton with a Republican Congress that time) btw, notice that Congress talks about reinstating Glass-Stegall or similar limitations but over a year later has yet to do anything other than try to sell us a healthcare system no one wants and a cap and tax scheme that will kill our economy. It's almost like they want the country to fail?

3- I agree with you. We do have a lot of debt, from many sources, to be paid for.
The costs of these conflicts should not be limited to just those wearing the uniform and then passing the monetary debt to our children.
WWII was financed by selling war bonds. The debt was taken by the people and paid back to the people.
*I was mistaken thinking that Congress didn't have the authority to deficit spend in 1940, our government has in fact spent more than it brings in every year since 1930. A few individual years since 1930 have had balanced budgets but overall we have been in debt since 1930 and did not actually finish paying for WWII until Reagans first term according to one source.

4- The generalized American individual's spending is a problem. Not all of us; but far too many of us live beyond our realistic means and unfortunately those of us that have sound personal economic models will now have to pay for the ineptitude of the masses.

*** NOTE / WARNING ***

Friends,
This has, so far, been an interesting discussion and a good place for vent about events.
I would please ask that we continue to keep the discussion civil and NOT personal.
Politics can be a touchy subject so I merely ask that we maintain our civility.
Jefferson and Adams agreed on very little and they debated vociferously their own points of view but they both respected and admired the contributions of the other in the founding of our great Republic. We can disagree and discuss without it turning negative.
Stepping off my soap box now,
CAS

The previous moron went to Yale then to Harvard.

As a small business owner, if I have one more government agency come into my place wanting to impose one more "regulation" along with another taxation, I may just go postal.

It would totally shock most of you to know how much we pay in tax, permits etc in the course of a year.......
