So I'm replacing all my DL u-joints trouble shooting some weird vibration. While taking out the old Ujoints, this part of the CV. Separated. There is a little spring that goes into the tube at the DL end and the separated part has needle bearings in it (bottom of pic). Please tell me I just grease it, make sure the needle bearings are all in place, and slide it back on. If not what's my options?

If you are getting vibrations from the cv then there is a good chance that you need to replace it. After awhile cv's start to get sloppy and will vibrate when wearing out.

If that small part is replaceable I take it that it does come apart. I'll see how much a new one is while apart. Thanks

I'm not looking that small part up correctly. What's its technical name? I keep getting the axle cv on searches. In bottom of pic. . Thanks

Whats it off of

I believe the year is a mid 90s jeep grand Cherokee. Not positive in year. It's a pick and pull DL

Funny. I needed a cv DL. And that bolted to my xcase. So what the hell is that called so I can find the damn part ;)

I take it it's not a toy case?

No. SM420 to Dana 18 with a Grand Cherokee CV top and FJ40 lower Driveline. It's called a CV ball joint. Had to post in the general section for the identification and found one at Rock Auto. When I got to replacing the 40's section of the DL, I could slide the joint back and forth. It had about 1/4" of play in it. I think that was the culprit. I still need to get a replacement joint for that so it's either the Dealership or order one online. I'll need a press to get that one out and a new joint back in.

Found these (No clue what specific CV they are from)

Centering Ball Assy. If that is worn/busted your drive line would not be spinning on its axis, but in an orbit around the axis.

ALSO, just googled up this http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/driveshaft/driveshaft-5.htm Jeep driveshaft, even contains some part numbers in there. Might be useful.

Thanks Drake. There are a bunch of common names for that part, but it was challenging finding the correct name to get a part number. I will know if i need that part after a test drive.

After replacing the 1350 joints, I moved to the Cruiser end. I could slide the joint up and down 1/4" while inside the driveline. I figure that was the problem. It was wobbling around at the axle end. I would think that was my problem. (hopefully).

For everyone's info...the replacement Cruiser U-joint from the dealership is 107 bucks with tax. That's the price for ONE!

I ordered one from Rock Auto for 18 bucks and change for shipping. If it comes this weekend, I'll have to try and press the old one out with some sockets and my Hi-Lift since they need to be pressed and I don't have a press. If that doesn't work, I'll use the one at work or bug our friendly neighborhood Toyota mechanic to help out.
