There are a lot of guys on this mail list that have done multiple trips through the Rubicon in 80 series;

80scool_usa_norcal : Northern California Land Cruiser Wagons

it would probably be worth your while to get on the list and benefit from their wisdom as well as what his group might have to offer.

Hope you've got armor. Sliders and a t-case skid plate at the least. Also, you should do the "angle iron" trick to the rear lower control arms or else they will get bent. Much easier/cheaper to fix them now, then after they are bent.

Buck Island used to be the place, but now that pretty much everyone camps there and the rules are what they are, we found towards the end that camping at Rubicon Springs was much nicer.

I'd agree with Jack about Buck Island, we have only stopped there for lunch the last few trips through. It's nice to go all the way to the Springs, if you can make good time on the trail. In a mostly stock rig you may not have that luxury.

I'd suggest a shorter loop; from Wentworth Springs to Loon Lake for a first taste of the Rubicon. Or even camping at Wentworth and making a day trip to Ellis Creek.
