Piston difference from a 76 vs 83 2F (1 Viewer)

Quick question -

I have a 2F being rebuilt from a 83 FJ60 that I'm dropping into my 76 FJ55.

I supplied the rebuilder pistons from my 83 and also a spare set I had from a 76 in case he needed one.

I just got an email that said one set of pistons were higher compression than the other - so the rebuilder went with the higher compression set. I assume he meant the pistons from the 83???

Anyone know??? I sent an email back but don't know when I'll hear due to the New Years holidays.

The earlier 2F pistons are domed-shaped, opposed to the later, flat-top style, which is likely what this guy is referring to being a high-compression component.




What cylinder head are you having him install?

Gotcha - I was thinking it was flat vs domed.

83 is being installed - 76 is shot b/c a Toyota dealership 'peened' the bottom of the head around the valves to get them to seat...bastards. That was under a PPPO. Pics are somewhere about 2/3 of the way through my build thread (see sig).

thats not a good combo.

you dont want to run the early pistons with the later head. Apparently there will be interference issues.

Thanks - I'm waiting to hear back on what was put in the motor. I have faith in the guys working on this motor so I'm sure everything is OK.
