I just got back from SnT and I am already dying to go back. if I can talk the pregnant princess into it...COUNT ME IN!! I may even have a lift by then and it would be even more fun. I also may be in Atlanta then, but I dunno. This could be a great event that I would love to make annual

Great idea Dave,

Smit

dang that's a good idea....

Smit, lift isn't going to do much for you in the sand, I'm afraid, if you don't get stuck... and stock tires better too, probably.... sorry.....

but eh, it'll look better! :)

True, but the new suspension over my worn out stock will allow me a much more enjoyable ride in the dunes:D . Just as I was able to experience first hand in Boyd's.....or maybe it was his blower that made it so much fun.....I sure hope it was the suspension ;) . My wrangler Silent Armors did great in the sand at SnT. I have been impressed with them on road, in snow, on rocks, in rain and now sand. I was never close to getting stuck then....although no one bothered to bury me in the sand  .

It had everything to do with the blower (at least that's what I keep telling myself;) ) and nothig to do with suspension!

Seriously though; the extra firmness and height gives you the piece of mind needed to approach the dunes with a little more speed, adding to the overall experience.:D

Boyd

also, if you are going down dunes at 45 deg, it may give you an extra 3 milliseconds before impact at the bottom... :D

One day I DO NOT drive. Too many amateur drunks on the roads!

Had a blast at SNT, what is the New Years plan? Fireworks? Party? ect?

The new years plan is to drink! I dont really know about fireworks .,. but we will for sure be partying it up!

Can anyone answer these questions?

* Do they enforce check in times? (its says 2pm)

* What happens when i get there 11pm-12am? Do i need to pay if the next day i have reservations? Do they enforce the previous day's fee's?

* Whats up with high tide?.. It says 2 foot for around the time we'll arrive.. is that bad? Doesnt seem bad to me. (last time i was there it was in the daytime)

Ok, looks like the game plan is to stay @ Cachuma Lake night #1.

If you're going to overnight at Cachuma, you might want to check the old Stagecoach Tavern at the top of the pass for dinner. Haven't been there in ages but they used to have venison and exotic meats (lion... ) in an old setting with lots of character. Avoid the place when the bikers come to drink... (Sunday lunch etc).
You can stop for a free coffee at the Casino in Santa Ynez too... :)
If you like pea soup, Buellton is your friend.
When you come back, do the West Camino Cielo Trail. View is superb.

oh, and you do know that you need full reservations at Hearst, right?

oooh that sounds bitchen! I'll google it. Is it called "cold spring tavern"?

Ok revised our plans.. we are stopping off there on the way up to the lake! Thanks E, place looks rad!

Where's that? Difficulty? We will be driving solo..

E9999, do you have any info on that trail? I googled it, but didnt come up with much.

cold springs sounds familiar. It's on the old road (Stagecoach?) down the pass towards Cachuma that goes under the main bridge for 154.

West Camino Cielo is a dirt road that does the ridge of the mountains between Cachuma and the Ocean. It goes from Refugio Road to 154. A bit rough at times but you could do it in a Sedan with some care. Views are awesome though. Count on at least 2 hours. About 25 miles, 15 of dirt.

If you are going to camp at Cachuma, it's only 10 or 15mins away from the Tavern. You may want to go get set up first and then go eat (check to make sure it's still open).

Dave when Renee and I went to Hearst Castle we took tour #1, I think. It was a great tour and the one reccomended by the people to get a good overall for the place if you have never been before. We did have reservations and all went smooth. We even lucked out and had the marine layer burn off so we could see the ocean view before the tour was over. Have a great time.

Yep, that's it.

So if im coming back from Pismo, i should run it from Refugio and back over the 154?

I'd like to hit the trail on the way home from Pismo.. Can i run it and pop out on the southern section the 154 fwy? Is there a trail head i can locate on a map? I don't know the area, i dont know where Refugio Road is either. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Do you have a link for it? I searched but found nothing in particular but hiking info.

Side note: Was hoping to see a launch @ Vandenburg.. but no such luck. February 7, 2007 is the next launch.
