I'm trying to chase down vacuum leaks and I'm new to the 2F world. My PCV valve is loose fitting coming out of the metal elbow, when I spray carb cleaner on it engine speeds up, is that normal to be loose?

There is a rubber grommet that installs between the metal tube and the PVC valve, it sounds like yours is missing.

I have a little wiggle in mine - even with a new rubber grommet. Make sure they are both properly seated. Grommet on the pipe and PCV into the grommet.

At first I thought that I had a valve that wasn't seating properly ( smoke at start up and rough idle until warm) but the more I'm reading it sounds like a vacuum problem. Am I right in my assumption ? Oh yeah and bad gas mileage 9-10 mpg

Use a Toyota grommet and PCV valve; it makes a difference.

Glad you're keeping another on the road - in my sig line are pdf downloads for all the different manuals you'll need, unless you plan to desmog. But I guess you're just interested, first off, of getting her running right?

Any idea why the rig was left for dead ?

The rear shock tower was rotted off and PO really didn't have the recourses to fix it, and I couldn't pass up the deal. All I had to do was pick it up.
