Anybody got any ideas on the parts needed to fix the front axle seals on my 80. I talked to ralph hayes and the guy quoted me about $200 on the rebuild kit with the discount, that was with some outer seals I think. I then looked at a post on MUD and cruiserdan had said that you need a lot more parts than are in the rebuild kit. I pmed him for a price and am waiting to hear back... Any info would be great!

i would go to Glenn as someone who has done a few 80 seals and gaskets and get his opinion...if he does not answer on here I would give him a call. The number is on side window of his 40 in all his posts :D :D

You will need p/n 90311-62001 Quanity 2 (Outer wheel seals). P/N 90310-35010 Quanity 2 (inner axle seals). P/N 04434-60051 Quanity 1 (front sweep seal gasket kit). Moly Grease, approximately 2, 1lb tubs of grease and i keep a grease gun with moly grease in it to finish it up when i'm done by filling the knuckles through the grease fill fittings on top of the knuckles.

The front sweep gasket kit is only that, no other seals are included, there are some kits for sale on-line that include more parts and bearings that state OE Parts, but i've never wanted to try the aftermarket kits due to, you typically get what you pay for. If you want call me tomorrow at the shop and i'll get you some prices on the above mentioned part #'s 843 225 5191

The only way to determine if you need any wheel bearings or king pin (trundle) bearings is to dissasemble and inspect.
Typically the wheel bearings and trundle brgs are OK if the vehicle has had some previous wheel brg services. If not then the only way to know is to dissasemble and inspect.
Being that yoiur rig has 232k on it theres no way to know for sure until you take it apart.
i've had to in the past replace wheel brgs with races, trundle brgs with races, spindles due to the wheel brgs being so loose for so long htat the wheel brg spins on the spindels wearing a heavy groove in the spindel.

its a 8hr if you have everything near by i did mine myself (some 1 on 1 time with the curiser)

new cir-clips for the axles for when ya pull them apart for cleaning or swaping. Mine were fine for re-using but I have heard of them breaking when you dis-assemble. Would also get a couple of spare knuckle studs and cone washers.....anything you might break or strip.

Might want to get Marlins HD inner axle seals to save you from having to do this again. As I understand that is what fails, and cuases 90W to get into the knuckle making them drool through the felt sweeps.
