So I find this whole process of parting out Cruizers very interesting and would like to part out on or two myself....I have a couple of questions....

1) Where do most of you guys get the Cruizers you part out?

2) Do you end up selling most of the parts here or other avenues?

3) What portion of the truck do you end up sending to the scrap yard?

4) Do you actually make any money doing it or is more of a way to feed Cruizer addiction?

Thanks in advance for any thought and insights!!

I parted out a 60 once. Picked it up for $500 with a bad motor-great body. Thinking I would rebuild it and sell for a profit. The guy ran it with bad gas and the detonation damage was so bad I couldn't use the block.
Long story short, I took some parts I wanted for spares, gave some parts to friends, and sold the rest on EBAY. It was a big pain in the A$$. Ended up making about $2000. Even sold the frame and tub to a guy in Canada. More trouble than it's worth exporting part of a car.
It takes a lot of time and trips to UPS. If you can pick one up cheep there is some cash to be made, but It might be easier to buy low and sell the whole thing for a profit.

Just my two cents.

It's more trouble than it's worth.

If you are looking at as a way to make some money, think again.

If you want quick money with low investment, plant a garden and sell the vegitables at the Farmers market.

Do you have room for a partially disassembled rig?

The same parts sell the fastest.

Orangefj45 parted one out because he could not sell a rust free great running rig for $1,700 after two of three months of trying.

I parted my 84 FJ 60 out beacus the A pillar rust had gotten very bad and it was unsafe to sell to anybody.

parting out cruisers

HI,
I have parted out 3 land cruisers.

It's take a long time to part them out. so you are out that time.
Then you have a garage full of parts you only need some of.
Then when you go to sell them you have to deal with some people low balling you on your prices.
I try to sell parts below cruiserparts prices. They are pretty cheap.
I sell cruiser parts to buy cruiser parts and to put some food on the table for the kids.
It's a lot of shipping to deal with.
If you deside to sell cruiser parts. Ebay is easest to sell parts on. Nothing agaist mud. But when a part is sold on ebay , it's sold.
I love mud and have meat some great people on here.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for all the feedback....good thoughts....

I wouldn't be doing to to get rich or make a return on an investment. A big part of it would be to gain a greater knowledge of how my cruizer goes together as well as getting parts I want/need.

Thinking it would be away to off set some of those costs.
Seems to me if you aren't looking at it as a way to get rich and can afford not to be done in one weekend then it isn't as bad as a poke in the eye with a stick.....

Well, not as bad as a poke in the eye with a stick...and a lot of cruisers that are about to be crushed either live again or at least are organ doners. Careful though, I bought my pig on spec...and well, I love it so, I had to go find another to get parts for it. I put blinders on when I drive by a 63 fj45 sitting in my area now. And when you have a part that is hard to find...you don't sell it. Nope! You might need it...pretty soon you start thinking you should open a salvage yard.... Dangereous stuff this cruiser affliction.

I actually don't have that many parts...but I probably will in the end...and of course, I'm not talk'n to anyone about where that 45 is...so, see maybe a poke in the eye with a stick is a better deal.

I had bought a 62 to part out. I ended up getting it running and 50K- later sold it for what I paid. Only to buy an 80 and now I also have a 40?????
