G'day all, just trying to figure out what alternator I have on my HJ 45 - it's not the original one, it's a Denso item, the part number I think (dirty nameplate:doh:) is 27040-08020. It has a green vacuum pump on the back that's smaller than the one that was on my '77 hj 45 and the regulator that usually sits on the firewall is goooooooone. It all works fine but the alt is getting towards its due date for an inspection.

Thanks in advance.

EPC doesn't recognise 08020 but it does recognise 78020 Herbs

Second thoughts - 78020 is a 24V alternator so that number can't be right for you. I'm guessing you would be 12V!

Cheers for that, had another look and I think the number is 68020, not 08020 or 78020. It might be a 12V Dyna alternator. The ammeter on the dash has been disconnected too, I guess when they upgraded the alt and redone the other wiring.:hhmm:

Edit: Haha I think I have it now, a net search for 27040-68020 comes up with:

I can't find 27040-68020 on the Toyota EPC.

But then that doesn't surprise me because I can't even find my own alternator under its nameplate number (27030-56023). (However mine does seem to appear under 27020-56023.)

27020 is actually the "main code" for "alternator assembly".... so if I do a search on it, I come up with those alternators that start with that number plus those that start with 27030, 27040, 27060 etc. (But the EPC won't recognise these later numbers for search purposes.)

So far I've looked at a number of combinations for yours without success.

Time to give up I'm afraid................

Later-model alternators are all internally-regulated AFAIK which is probably the reason your regulator is missing. (I can't remember the changeover year but I believe it is early eighties - perhaps 1982?)

Edit - Just read your edit - Yep. Searching for part numbers on the Internet often yelds better results than searching the EPC. ----- I reckon you've got it.

The original wires that went to the regulator have been chopped and crimped, this is a Feb 1980 build 45 with a H motor. I know that the '11/'83 BJ 42 that I have is externally regulated too, so the setup in my 45 isn't factory. Well this is a bonus.:D
