Anyone know how to tighten up the parking brake. Mine only keeps the truck from rolling backwards. And doesn't do a very good job at that. I had a friend tell me a few years ago it was easy to fix, i just wouldn't know where to look.

Back of the transfer case.

Look for a big brake housing the rear drive shaft bolts to.

On that housing should have a 10mm bolt head sticking out-turn that & then try your parking brake handle.

Should this not work-you may need a parking brake rebuild kit-not hard to do & should you wheel the truck this will come in very handy in those vetical spots.

Is it the same for 60s? Mine needs this too.

ok, after looking around a little i found where that pb cable is going. It is basically going into the middle of the axle. I think.

Now, do i tighten the bolt that is holding the cable in? or loosen it?

Sounds like you're talking about the speedo cable. The parking brake adjuster is a bolt at the botton/rear of the drum. It's the bottom bolt in the picture.

Be sure to adjust this with the parking brake handle in. Adjust the bolt and then check the handle. If this doesn't work then you need a set of pads.

Nope. Adjust your rear drums, if that doesn't fix it there is an adjustment in the cab where your brake lever is. Check the FSM for details, I have forgotton exactly how that works.

alright...i think i know where it is now. I couldn't find it b/c i have a big protective plate under there blocking my view . Anyways, I am gonna work the plate off and see what happens.

Do I need to put the plate back on afterwards?? It is of course...pretty rusty down there, and I am sure I am going to break some of those bolts taking it off. Doesn't look like sani has one on there... by the way sani, the underside of your truck looks imaculate.

Yes put the "protective plate" back on. Proper name is Skid Plate. If you choose to not put it back on for some reason then I'll take it. If we ever get you on the trail then you will need it. You shouldn't have to take it off to adjust the brake. :grinpimp:
