Would like to hear the recommended way to paint powder coated metal.

I figured that a good roughing up with a scrub pad, thorough cleaning, and float on a couple coats of color, followed by a couple coats of clear.

Right approach?

Scuff up the best you can. Clean / degrease/no dust allowed. Just remember there will be differences in film strength and adhesion. If the coatings see extreme temperature swings, they will expand and contract at different rates. Results could be early failure and pealing. So make sure you take extra care in preping the surface.

Are you looking to refinish wheels? Tell me more. What chemistry of paint are
you going to use? Air dry or bake?

are you doing your powder coating yourself? IIRC Sears and Harbor Freight sold powder coating kits for the DIY'er. the only hitch would be not getting caught using the oven in your kitchen to bake the paint.

Have a trailer that has the box powder coated red. The frame is PC black, the top is aluminum - PC white. I was planning to disassemble the trailer, paint the box only - then rhino the inside, tailgate, inside fenders, etc. I would shoot it myself with HVLP gun and airdry.

Can't have a trailer that soesn't match my cruiser - I am prolly buying one that isn't red, like my 60 was.

Here's a thought....if you're going to have the inside lined, why not have the outside of the box lined also? I know there are several brands of liner out there that match color, pretty darn close. The guy who did the inside of my trailer w/Scorpion Liner has done several color matches that have come out sweet, including the inside of an FJ40 tub matched to Dune Beige.

I agree, trailer's gotta match the ride...bling! :)

Yep, good idea. Have to get the 80 set up and then get rims/tires all round to match the 80...
