I remember doing this on the farm many, many years ago. Worst sunburn I ever got.......aluminum flecked paint.

Anyway, I'm curious about painting the roof on my home. Right now it's a faded turd brown and I'd like to paint it forest green or tan. Any issues with doing this?

other than the obvious..making sure the surface is clean and ready for paint (any dirt and oxidization is removed and it's dry), just don't do it on a hot sunny day

What would happen if the oxidization wasn't completely removed? Up here, it's more of a concern to find a non-rainy day. Sun is optional here. :o

the paint wont adhere as well. if it's badly oxidized....very chalky, it might peel.
u only wanna do it once...do it right. get up there a week or two before to check it out. if it is, get some tsp and a brush on a broom stick..like u get at boat stores ..and scrub it down. then rinse off. u dont have to go crazy. just give it a little prep work. then, the next time it's nice, get on it with the paint. doesnt matter much if u have to wait a month. just make sure it's dry and that it ISN'T hot. if it dries too quickly..like in 5 minutes, it's not gonna adhere well. 60 degree day will = about 80 degree surface temp. any hotter than that would not be so good. know what i mean?

Yup, gotcha. Thanks for the input.

Wonder why that old rancher had me doing it in Aug in Kansas? Damn, it must have been 90 or better, likely 120 on that roof.

Don't try to set a ski jump record like I did, only recommendation I have so far.;)

Yeah, that thought has crossed my mind. Fortunately, there's only a 9' fall off the back (in the majority of places), but there's about a 12' fall off the front. ;)

probably because he had cheap paint and cheap labor. ;)
seriously, probably didnt know any better. look at any paint can...it'll tell u not to paint when it's any colder than 50 or warmer than like 80. but at 80 on a sunny day, that roof metal is gonna be smokin hot. do that and you'll greatly increase the chances that it peels off in sheets

I only had about 9' of fall at the oh crap point, but the speed and the change of pitch of the porch will give you more launch..

I have deep respect now and apply liberal doses of belt dressing on my shoes everytime I have to get up there.;)

Now there's an idea for spiderman! Is your roof pretty steep? Mine's 5/12 pitch, so it's not too bad.

Mine is 5/12 also, not bad if there is no moisture involved.

Of what ? The accident ???

Get a harness dude. My brother fell that way and spent 16 years in a nursing home before he died. Cheap insurance...

Sorry to hear that. Yes, safety first.
