Has anyone painted their calipers? I wanted to paint them like the TRD BIG BRAKE Calipers. I just love the sporty "mean" look of red calipers....but to do it, would I have to take the caliper off? Or just tape around it? I have no clue on how to take it off :-P

performanceproducts4trucks.com sells a kit to do exactly what you are considering. I agree they look sweet with red calipers. It comes with all the instructions you need. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I painted mine and used the Dupli-Color RED caliper (Ceramic) paint. It's a brush on paint so I did not removed the calipers.

The red color matches the TRD shocks and the painted OEM sway bar.

I like the swaybar painted red. Looks great! Those calipers look great too. I was thinking about doing my swaybar, but most of it is covered by my budbuilt skids.

Hah! Thanks man, that's exactly the pic I needed!

NDA431FJR, how long ago did you paint the calipers? Are they holding up well? Been mulling over painting mine black but ive been worried about durability.

Almost a year and they are still in good shape.

one last question, how long did it take for them to dry? Figure next time I do an oil change/tire rotation Ill paint them

The Dupli-Color BCP400 Brake Caliper paint kit that I used requires two hours to dry before installing the wheels. Apply the paint when air temperature is between 55-85 F.

Allow 24 hours for paint to fully cure.

Are you planning to paint the rear calipers also?

most likely. I'm not about painting them red/yellow or whatever for flash I just want to make them black to get that old tired look they have covered up. The 911 has the big yellow brakes which I like to show off ;)

Ok, so everyone here has just used the brush paint for the calipers...sounds like the easy way to do it. All I do is remove the wheel, and it's right there to paint correct? Should I hose it down with simple green and wash it off to get all the grime and what not off? I'll prob lift the car via the trailgear sliders since that's far easier.

I thought this was something brake cleaner was invented for, cleaning the brakes.

every break cleaner I have used has depressed me in some way.

....talk about annoying as hell. I got the jack stands (which hardly work since my vehicle is lifted) and jack, got the paint kit...tried to take the lugs off... NO ****ING WAY they are coming off! Ok, well TWO came off on the rear, but that was after I put the iron lug wrench on, STOOD on it, and JUMPED, 250lbs standing on the damn thing wouldn't make it budge, I had to jump twice! Then I called my buddy, and asked him wtf was up since he just took his wheels off, he said they are insanely over-tightened it sounds and to NOT do that since you can snap the things that the lugs grab onto. So whatever, I'm pissed, I had everything setup and today was the day I had free to do it.

Ok...finally got THREE wheels off...last one has ONE bolt that will NOT budge...joy...word to all. If you use this kit, do NOT USE THE BRUSH INCLUDED. Talk about one crappy brush. I was painting it and the brushlits came off and went on the paint, tried rinsing the brush to see if I could free up the lose ones, and all the brushlits fell out. Grrr. Went over it with the only other brush I had, which is quite larger. It looks as if I put too much paint on, but I really won't be able to tell until tomorrow. I'm sure any excess coats will be flaked off under the heat.

Ok. It's only been on there for 6 hrs, so not fully cured, but I think it came out pretty well even more so since I'm a crappy painter in general. Sry for the crappy pic, took it with my cell.

I'll take another one once it is 100% cured and driven to knock off any clumsy layers.
