I recently purchased a 1966 FJ40 in need of, among other things, a new coat of paint. This Forum was my next stop. After I have my mechanical/electrical issues worked out, is there a N. Texas body shop anyone would recommend? My rust appears to be mostly surface rust, so I am wondering if a body shop will be able to address this and removal of the old paint with media blasting. If anyone has any separate recommendations for media blasting/paint removal, I'd love to hear them. Thanks for the tips.

I use Quality Colors, off Garland rd. and Jupiter rd in Dallas. ask for Rodney tell him Mike Hanson sent you.Ihave used him for 20 plus years. Mike

Mike and others:

When it is time to paint, have you totally disassembled your cruiser and trucked it in piece by piece, or can Rodney and others blast and paint an entire cruiser at a time (hardtop included)? I'm trying to figure out the amount of prep work involved on my end so I can budget my time and money. I appreciate the advice.

Rodney can do just parts which I have taken in or the whole cruiser.I think its easy to strip cruisers so I take off what I can to save $$$. Mike

I used a guy that has done a few of my friends volvos and then did my 1966 Volvo 122s. I wouldn't say that he is concourse quality, but he's very good and VERY affordable, PERFECT for an FJ. He also paints private jets at his day job, and owns this shop on the side. Let me know if you are interested:

Edit: This paint hasn't been buffed yet, so its the raw dried paint.:

where is it located? my truck isn't perfect, so the paint doesn't have to be, but no earl type paint, either.
how about color matching? can he do it? my 40 was originally the seafoam green, and it'd be cool to get it back to that...

He is located right next to love field. For I've seen him blend colors pretty well if thats what you are after. If you are trying to match a factory color, we took one of my interior panels (painted) and had that scoped, the match was great!

PM for his phone number etc if you'd like

it won't be for a while yet, but i am very interested in doing this. when it was stolen, they did a craptastic paint job on it, so, when the time comes, i really want to repaint it. desperately. the thieves apparently wanted to paint it pretty badly. and they succeeded.

oh, and that volvo is hella cool.

Sounds good, just let me know when. He's really good about you letting you do everything that you want to (disassemble, even help him sometimes).

Thanks for the compliment, just trying to finish it! (rechromed bumpers and trim re installation)
